This has sort of become a bit of an Australia-watch segment in the last few weeks. Sorry if it bores some, but mainland Australia is going through some dangerous times.
Richo, our former-Viggen-owning mate was at Philip Island in Victoria indulging in his new brand:
And the temperature at one point in the afternoon:
That’s seriously hot. I hope the Bimmers didn’t melt in the sun.
Melbourne (the capital city in Victoria) had it’s hottest day on record today and fires are sweeping across the state. There have been many, many homes destroyed and 14 confirmed deaths so far with a fear the number might go as high as 40.
Serious business.
500km away in Tasmania it’s like another world. We had rain this morning and a top in the mid-high 20s.

So odd. This week I flew north and endured a 2 degree F (-17 degrees C) low.
(For those of us in North America still using the Farenheit scale, 48 deg C = 118 deg F — Arizona summer temps).

I read the news about the fires on the web news and the first thing that occurred to me when viewing the photos was the firemen wearing those heavy fire coats. I can’t imagine what wearing a heavy fire proof coat, helmet, gloves, etc. in 118 degree weather! God bless them.

My fireman dad tells me the reason for the heavy coats is to keep out the heat of the inferno — 600-700 degF, or hotter sometimes. And yes, God bless ‘em.
Spent a summer in our US desert southwest when the temps hit 122F one day. I can’t imagine that for days on end.
From the selfish point of view, I hope that the weather doesn’t wreak havoc on the wonderful Aussie Wine Country… Stay as cool as you guys can down there!

Can I just say if anyone EVER gets a chance to take an M3 on a race track, do it. My god, what a machine!

…..for the price they charge it better be a fine machine. However, get the 335 Turbo engine in it rather than that Yankee style V8. It’s going to burn them as these will now form part of the unpopular petrol Guzzlers.
