I really, REALLY like the look of this vehicle. It’s a subtle change, but a great one.

The Saab 9-3x is due to make its official public debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month (March 2009). I hope it gets a really good showing.

There are more photos over at Auto Motor and Sport, and they’re HUGE!

Thanks Par!

I love waking up in the morning to stuff like this. It looks great. I think this car will be a big hit up here in the Northeast. I wonder if they will have an Aero version as well as the 2.0T

it like it alot! lets hope for a diesel version:)

  • 3 ctmNo Gravatar // Feb 7, 2009 at 9:20 pm

In the article they speculate if raised chassis will get rid of the problem that makes diesel + XWD impossible on the current 9-3.

checked with swedish road authority on the JET 715, total weight : 2090 Kg
    registration date : 2008-12-11

    Hi Dippen,
what is the dry weight ?

    @ctm,
I still don’t think it is a problem of the chassis, but a problem with the engine. And I think if SAAB uses the Diesel engines from the Insignia for the MY 2010, they will get an XWD TTID 9-3 with e-LSD (Not bad for a cars name ;) )

it looks great! is it only 2.0 T and ttid avaible for 9-3x?..what happen with biopower, v6 ?

  • 7 swadeNo Gravatar // Feb 7, 2009 at 10:11 pm

Alex, that engine and XWD info was for one particular European market. I’d be surprised if bioPower wasn’t available in Sweden.

I’d like to see one next to an Aero to see the difference in road clearance … especially at the front lip. The combination of the long nose and low lip on my Aero make for some interesting lines when entering driveways, etc. I can hardly imagine how it would be in snow. I sure hope they addressed this with the 9-3X … the pics make it hard to tell.

Me> i have no info on that, sorry. (if not the 2090 is the dry weight)

btw,a bit fun with the reg plates, “JET” ..i guess saab was lucky to get that reg number:)

    Looks good. Send it.

strange, still no proper wheels– just covers on steel.

I would love to see where the designers would take an aggressive 3-spoke or double 3-spoke visually suited for an off-road vehicle.

As an owner of a 93 2.0T and a fan of Saab. I am very happy to see that finally GM is taking interest in building a proper brand. Maybe the fact that they are trying to sell it might be a good thing for SAAB. With the updating of the 95, creating a Cross Country variant of the 93 (A bit late but better late than never) and the long awaited 94x. Are all criticall elements in rejuvinating the brand. Hopefully the 94x will vary considerably from it`s GM cousins in order to differentiate it from them and justify it`s premium price tag. No more subaru or trailblazer rebadged vehicles please!!!! And let`s focus on quality! Seeing the cold weather testing of the 93X pics l hope they work out the terrible noises that the suspension makes on my 93 when we have -5C or lessesr temperatures. Something that should not be the case especially from a car coming from a northern country like Sweeden! Saab has definetly great qualities, fuel efficient, powerfull environmentaly friendly engines, forward thinking in aerodinamics being built within their production vehicles and above all a high degree of safety standards that are parallel to none. Why has GM not capitalized on these key features within Canada and the U.S.A if not the world especially in these troubling times. Either way, l see hope in this brand and we should all make sure the General gets the message!

    2WD 9-3X ? Bit of an oxymoron, isn’t it ?

Otherwise looks faaaaaantastic. I’ll take mine in black, s’il vous plait :-D

  • 14 moNo Gravatar // Feb 8, 2009 at 2:47 am

in the us i have hunch that this 9-3 will be overpriced like the rest of the line, its already gonna have a handicap before entering the salesroom.

That extra skid plate at the rear is ugly. Looks like it doesn´t fit completely. Should have bit smoother shape to my eyes.

2WD version -> not much sense, though some may have a use for higher ground clearance.

XWD & eLSD should be standard if it is really for what it looks like. Otherwise it would be just cosmetical (crap..).

Those black parts look good on a snow silver!

  • 18 DMRNo Gravatar // Feb 8, 2009 at 5:40 am

Are those an extra pair of brakelights above the tail pipes? Nice!

  • 19 moNo Gravatar // Feb 8, 2009 at 5:54 am

    DMR, those are reflectors.

“I really, REALLY like the look of this vehicle. ”

I really like it too Swade. It looks awesome! It must be the contrast of silver paint and black cladding… The front end is still very aggressive!

A Lot of manufacturers offer 2WD versions of their Cross-over models. This is nothing new. It will be disappointing however if Diesel can’t be matted to XWD.

As for over-priced??? Price; like aesthetics is based purely on individual perception. SAAB is never going to sell their products to compete with the mainstream brands. If you want to compare SAAB with Acura and Infinity that’s your prerogative. I personally, will judge the price of this car on whether I can afford it. I think SAAB prices are fine for the premium segment they are in.

The 9-4x, the 9-3x and who knows what soon, all in their almost full glory within a few days prior to… well the February 17 dead(?)line. Coincidence? Or a PR statement/warning? Saab needs life support to survive; otherwise you paying guys become the bad guys by aborting these beautiful and alive (almost) newborns!

  • 23 DPNo Gravatar // Feb 9, 2009 at 3:41 am

Like others, I hope for a 9-3x turbo diesel as a U.S. option. I also share doubts about front end ground clearance. And having been whomped in parking lots a few times, I wonder if the rear bumper is wide enough to protect the rear quarters and to meet the 5 mph damage-free standard of my ‘78 99.

like it alot, but late to the party and too expensive.
