Photo from Autoblog, who call it the Saab 9-X BioHybrid and claim you can almost smell the looming death. All is forgiven.

That looks a lot different than last year. Not nearly as many cars or people. Last year Saab was right near the stage where GM was doing its press conferences, there was a lot of energy and big crowds.

Yeah, though it looks like Autoblog went through whilst the press corps was elsewhere. All the stands in their GM Booth tour look empty.

Still the nicest stand, though, with the screen etc. It was a very popular place last year just for the fact that people could sit down somewhere.

The looming death is GM’s, but it will be a drawn out one…
When a dinosaur is it’s death throes, there’s a lot quivering and shaking.
Robert Farago must be in his element lately!

Spot on Markac, I agree 100%

You hit the nail on the head Markac, GM is in a tailspin right now and Saab’s an unfortunate casualty. I think the stench of death extended to pretty much all of GM’s displays.

There’s just nothing there that stands out as being particularly interesting or enthralling, let alone competitive. There are no “conquest” cars that will steal back some of that market share from the Japanese and the Koreans, nothing that will combine the “oooh wow!” factor of the CTS, ZR1 or Volt with a package that is appealing and affordable to the average American.

Went to the Silicon Valley Auto Show in San Jose where the Saab display was very muted and unremarkable. A 9-3 Sportcombi with modified XWD had a starting price of $36k. This left a decidedly non-competitive impression when compared to splashy new cars like the Hyundai Genesis which often displayed the lowest base MSRP even though most buyers will add lots of options. GM sure didn’t lure any new Saab customers with marketing like this. Hell, even Chrysler put on a better show with presenters touting the ZEO and EcoVoyager concepts.

Has anyone seen the Audi A-7 sportback concept? I hate to give Audi its props on this blog but that is one hell of a fine looking hatchback. That could very well be a Saab killer if they make it, check it out.

How come Saab’s competitors are thinking seriously about hatches and Saab isn’t?

I’m thinking the old saying: ‘there’s no such thing as bad publicity’ and wondering, how does it apply to Saab…

Sadly I have to agree with SAABoy “LOL Biohybrid”. They have been exlaiming the benefits of BIO power for 3 or 4 years now but will not sell it in North America. They had an inovation they could have capitalized on but for what ever reason they missed the boat.

    My favourite mix:
    + Audi A7 Sportback Concept,
    + Porsche Panamera
    + Skoda Superb (twindoor)
    Shake, not stir….
