There’s been so much news lately!

Maybe it’s time to get back to the reason why I do this, and why you come and visit here – some excellent Saab vehicles. It’s the driving of them, after all, that’s so engaging and addictive.

This magnificent Saab 9-5 is owned by the national Chairman of our very own Saab Car Club of Australia, Clive M.

It’s a 2001 model and Clive’s had a lot of serious work done to it since buying it new at that time. How serious? Around $30,000 worth of serious!

The car’s been maintained by Dean Randle at Swedish Prestige in Melbourne. Dean also happens to be the authorised agent of Abbott Motorsport, so there’s been plenty of Abbotisation over the years.

The list of modifications is considerable:

* Dean Randle full performance and precision rebuilt B235R motor, overbored with forged pistons.

* Full (end to end) Abbott Racing inlet induction with cast end housing high performance intercooler, matching performance ECU.

* Fully rebuilt auto gearbox (5000kms since fitted).

* 18 alloy rims with low profile r rated Dunlop tyres ( 8000ks since new )

* Custom stainless steel exhaust headers matched to full Abbott performance exhaust system and then finished with unique twin exhausts

* To bring all this to a safe stop, upgraded brakes.

* Koni dampers and Abbott lowered springs.

This, to me, is the money shot.

Have a look at that engine! Grrrrrrrrr.

Cliva actually visited Tasmania a few years ago with the Saab club but I had family staying with me and couldn’t catch up with everyone other than a quick visit at the concours display. I wish I’d had more time to get to know all of these brilliant vehicles.

If you’re disappointed at missing out on buying Richo’s Viggen, then maybe you should consider this Abbott 9-5. It’s for sale and you can contact Clive for details.
