Earlier today I covered a report in Motor Trend that claimed that the Saab 9-4x would be appearing in around 4 or 5 months from now.
Launch cadence is four or five months behind the [Cadillac SRX], which means a late 2009 on-sale date and no plans for a U.S. auto show debut.
They had referred to Steve Shannon in the article and included a quote from him about the Saab 9-5, though they didn’t attribute their claims on the 9-4x to him directly.
I’ve just spoke to Djup Strupe (that’s Swedish for Deep Throat if you’re new around here) about this issue and Djup has been very clear about the fact that this part of the report from Motor Trend would not have come from Steve Shannon directly.
In essence, the claim from Motor Trend that the Saab 9-4x would be coming in four or five months is wrong.
Given the uncertainty around Saab at this time, nothing is written in stone. Saab are working to try and bring the 9-4x in on schedule, but that schedule remains as per the press release from early November last year, i.e. a 2010 introduction for the Saab 9-4x.
And that’s if it comes, which given the state of GM and Saab, wouldn’t seem to be a certainty.
If you were planning a mid-year purchase of the Saab 9-4x, sorry, but you’ll have to go back to the original plan.

Well if the SRX is going on sale in the 2nd quarter of 2009, that could be April, May or June. So 5 months from June is November 2009. Maybe it is more like 7 months, which takes us to January 2010.
