Last night, when I first asked you to consider voting for the Saab 99 Turbo in CAR Magazine’s historic hot hatch poll, the 99T had less than 1% of the vote, with just 26 votes.

12 hours or so later, the Saab 99 Turbo sits third on the poll with 541 votes (around 10% of the vote), just ahead of the Peugeot 205 GTI on 522 votes. The Golf GTi still leads with 806 votes, followed by the Lancia Delta Integrale on 706 votes.

And yes, the Saab 99 Turbo has now passed the Nissan Sunny :-)

If you haven’t cast your vote yet, the poll is here.

I think we’ve delivered some long overdue respect to one of the first mass produced turbocharged cars in the world, and for that, I thank you.

I’m not sure if this would be considered a fair poll.
It would be biased. Sort of like voter fraud

Third is OK in my book, especially with the competition. The GTI is really the most iconic hot hatch of all time as far as I’m concerned, and the Delta Integrale is with the exception of the current STI easily the hottest hatch ever to make it to production.

But ALL hot hatches making big power from turbo 4-bangers can trace their heritage back to the 99 turbo. It may have been superseded by later cars, but it certainly deserves a ton of credit for being the first of the modern turbo 4 sport compacts.

I cannot say that I’d be too disappoined if the Golf won. I did vote for the 99 though.

Voting more than once would be voter fraud, which is why they have the IP restriction. Mobilising the legitimate vote that you have means that people have their say, which is what voting’s all about.

Where’s the 9-3 Viggen? Shite list!

J, with a remark like that you’d better hide!!!

Swade, maybe the 99T only came third coz they asked the best hot hatch. If they asked best “smokin’ hot” hatch the 99T would have won by a mile.

Man Id love to drive a 99T or classic 900!

I did vote, for the ultimate hot hatch. Peugeot 205 GTI. Sorry ’bout that…

    Swade,

the last time, when you called for us to vote for Saab in a poll aproximatly one year ago, I voted, of course, but this time I just had to vote for Lancia Delta Integrale.

It does not mean that I think that it is a better car then the 99T because it isn’t, but there is some attachment to the Integrale that is close to my heart. It was a winner at WRC, as Saab was back in it’s time, and the 4wd that it had was tremendous.

Sure, it had a lot of flaws (the bodywork was the likes of a washing machine) but the car had a lot of character. :-)
