Martin Kemp’s bio describes him as a “hard man” actor who appeared in The Krays as well as numerous TV shows in England. In a previous life he was also a “soft man” musician, playing bass with Spandau Ballet in the 1980s.
He’s now going to be known as “the man who OK’d the desecration of a classic Saab 900″ for being the client behind this car that’s now coming up for sale at auction – this weekend, actually – in the UK.
The car – a 1989 Saab 900 Turbo – was modified by a Bangladeshi car builder (ther’s something you don’t write everyday) as part of a TV program called Chop Shop.
Here’s the donor vehicle:
And here’s soft/hard Saab desecrator Martin Kemp posing with the finished product:
OK, you can’t really tell the full extent of the modifications done to the car from that pic, so how about this?
As mentioned at the top, this vehicle is actually for sale at auction in the UK. The auction is being conducted by a company called Coys and will take place in Birmingham this Saturday, January 10 and as you can see from that link, the price expectation is unknown at this point.
Click through for some more images of the build and the finished product.
And the final photos as per the auction listing…..
My thanks to Robin M for following this one!

I consider doing this to a fine classic 900 Turbo to be a CRIME!
But I’m norwegian……………..

So this guy had a Saab 900 and thought “I wonder what it would be like if it was uglier, slower, less aerodynamic, heavier and less practical…”
I guess the answer can be found in the fact that he is trying to sell it.

Anyone care to place a wager on how much this abomination will sell for? I call $1250 USD. (I am in for a $5 bet)

Pleas someone with money go buy that car and do a documentary on re-building the saab 900 to its original state! that would be hilarious!

Those guys on Chop Shop are a disgrace, total cowboys and no concept of engineering. I’m continually surprised that their cars are classed as legal.
Anyway justice has prevailed and the car is being humanely destroyed for charity
