Trollhattan Saab has changed!
The site you're viewing now is the original Trollhattan Saab weblog, though it's now an archive only and no new material is posted here. As of February 2009, all new material is posted at our new site - Saabs United.

Howdy all.
I recently upgraded this site to a new version of Wordpress (the software that drives this little wagon) but am increasingly worried about how it’s running. The upgrade just seems to have made things a few things worse.
I’ve also been concerned for a while that some people haven’t been able to view video, too.
So…..we’re switching on the wayback machine at the moment. I’ll be reverting back to the previous theme that I used here.
I’m working on it at the moment.
Content should resume either later tonight or tomorrow morning.

When I click previous (to get the previous entries not visible on the front page) I still only get the latest entries. But the address in the Address bar does change to …/page/2
Maybe it’s just my Internet Explorer?

Hmmmm. I think I need to clean up the comments.php file. It looks a bit cluttered there.
Am pleased to have the old look back, actually. Not as sophisticated as the last one but (apart from comments) it’s a bit less busy.

Whoa, I thought that I was on the wrong site for a second!
I’m good with either. I like the ability to read this style on my Blackberry, the other site won’t even load.

Gotta say at first glance I thought it was a new site upgrade and I liked what I saw. The old template is cleaner to look at and browse through for me. Newer isn’t always better.

Please consider keeping this template Swade. Much more pleasing to the eye and simpler to browse.

This format is fine. I stopped using Internet Explorer and switched to FireFox, because IE would crash so often on the previous layout.

I like this design. I read the feed so don’t really care
but found the other one had functional problems when trying to comment.
KISS – Keep It Simple Swade !

Whoa, I thought something was broken, then quickly realized that you were back to the blog format I previously enjoyed. It seems just plan easier to scan & read…
As to me & my blog (http://racingready.com), I’m staying with v.2.6.5 of WordPress for the foreseeable future, at least for the next couple of months, till all the bug fixes get worked through.
In the meantime, I’ll continue to enjoy your blog, however it’s presented – keep up the good work!

Like this format. Although the other format looked nice it had one small flaw: you had to scroll down quite a bit to get to comments on some posts

I actually liked the old style, ctm. That was on the old Movable Type system that I should never have changed from.

Swade, when did you change to the new format (the one you changed from the other day)? Was it this summer? Didn’t it almost coincide with the financial crises?
I think you should stick with this layout. I like it a lot. Reminds me of the “true” TS – the kick-*** personal blog that saved Saab in the first place…

The previous design looked much cleaner and more professional. This design is a bit easier to navigate and you can see all content on the single main page which is nice. But I liked the previous design better. However, I usually read the main articles though an RSS client (Thunderbird or Apple Mail) and come to the site to see the comments and look at older content.

i like the old one more.
swade, will you change it back to the old version or will you keep this version as for now?

I liked the last one a lot, but it was a little bug-ish in places. This one’s acting a little funny, too, though I think it might be the new version of Wordpress that’s doing that.
What I’d really like to do is just start all over again, back on Movable Type. I’m actually contemplating doing that, too. It’d be search engine suicide, but I’m thinking of picking a whole new URL, settting it up with maybe the 200-500 best entries from here and just going from there.
A simple layout, architecture I can count on and maybe a new Saab company to write about in 2009. It’s worth thinking about.

The site currently looks very cramped on my 20″ widesscreen monitor. It probably looks alright on an older (square) monitor though?

Leaving the old behind and starting with something new makes sense. See what Apple did with OS 9 and OS X. You can still leave the old site up and running for reference but starting from scratch can open new doors. Go for it!

Whatever you did..on all my XP+explorer machines the site looks quite empty..all content on the right is there but way down on the page after all the stories. Before I could see the content on the right as soon as I logged in…ie..what articles have comments.

RM,
The site is showing all three columns for me using IE7 and a 1024 x 768 resolution.
What are you using?
If you’re using 800 x 600 then you’ll need to scale up. I’ll narrow the center column now just for some insurance, but it should read OK in all browsers if the monitor is set to at least 1024 x 768.

Interested why Wordpress isn’t working for you?
