I’ve told the story once before about the explanation I received about why it’s taken so long for GM to make any inroads in terms of developing Saab. The story went something like this:
GM, as a parent, loves all its kids and wants them all to go to college one day (i.e. grow up and realise their potential) but it’s an expensive exercise and only a few kids can get to college at any one time.
It’s an explanation that makes sense on a nice, homely level, but it also brought about the following thought in my mind: The next time big daddy GM thinks about expanding his family, he should take a cold shower and keep it zippered.
The explanation doesn’t quite hold as much water when the parent takes one of the more intelligent kids in the brood, the one with the quieter personality but big ideas, and throws them out on the street due to some bad investments and over indulgence.
The following is a video of the Cadillac SRX, the sister SUV to the Saab 9-4x that we may or may not ever see in production. Just imagine it being tasteful and more capable on the white stuff and you’ll be OK.

I think Saab would qualify for an aged pension before GM would spend any real money on it.
As to the 9-4x, I think GM should have used protection on that one!
