Trollhattan Saab has changed!

Trollhattan Saab has had Gravatars enabled for a little while now and if you haven’t got one, then why not?
What’s a gravatar, I hear some of you ask? It’s a fun little way of brightening up the comments section of the website.
How it works:
Go to gravatar.com and create your gravatar. It’s a very simple registration process and it only takes a minute or two using an image that you supply.
The gravatars to be shown here are restricted to ‘G’ and ‘PG’ ratings. Let’s keep it clean, people.
IMPORTANT: When you register and create your gravatar, be sure to use the same NAME and EMAIL ADDRESS you use when you leave a comment. The software will look up your gravatar based on your email address and slot it in.
You can see a few examples in the image attached. Your gravatar should automatically show up at other Gravatar-enabled sites, too.
When you’re done, why not come back, leave a comment and see if it’s worked OK!!!

What a stupid program. I chose a small image to use as my avatar, and instead of fitting it to size, it blows it up huge, and then makes me choose a chunk of pixels to use as my avatar.

my gravatar is a silhouette of a person’s head and shoulders

Altough I like jono’s funny minimalism i.e., I am myself a fundamentel believer of maximalism.
Less is bore, you could name that.
In order to explain my used gravatar, it is a stylised head of a viking vessel with pretty italian basso continuo influences. You work out the saab connection yourselves.

Ahh … now that’s more like it.
Thanks for inspiring me to express myself in a new and bold way!

GWC: I think that we’ve all become accustomed to stunts like that from our readers.

Mag-X, you can make the selection area larger by dragging the corner.
I have been adding my location to my screen name. I just think it is interesting to see which part of the world the comments are coming from and was hoping it would catch on.

I can’t be me (”name already in use”) so therefore, I shall remain a silhouette of me.

I had to use a different name too (min four letters on gravatar) but it works anyway here with my three letter Name as long as the e-mail address is correct.

Gravatar – second attempt.

I had to change the case of my username. Also the program would only crop a square section..

I bet nobody else picked a SAAB-gravatar!

rminnj: “I had to change the case of my username. Also the program would only crop a square section..”
Thanks rminnj, I’ve entered my user name in the box above in lower case this time, I’ll see if that works. (Mind you, I prefer the look of it using capitals – it just seems right somehow).

I changed my name so is that why I can’t edit posts now?

Thanks Swade. So I guess I can keep my name and have my avatar, too.

Increase gravatars on80px, this is too small.

Test trying to use capital letters in my username.. Gravatar sight complained about uppercase.. oh, ok, I see I can still sign with upper case and it works.. that is cool.

Well it didn’t like my Nick and it didn’t like my password and it disliked them for fairly basic reasons it didn’t tell me about until after I’d entered them.
As a software engineer, that sort of thing gives me zero faith in the rest of the operation. Sounds like there are other issues as well.
Guess I’ll stick with the “grey (wo)man” image.
Shame as the basic idea’s good, if you carry the same persona across all your forums.

Iain, I think I both understand and agree with your view, but I have seen many “respected” websites (e.g. airline companies) with worse user interaction than the gravatar site.
Actually, I can only think of a handful sites that bother mentioning what their password requirements are. For simple websites, I use simple passwords… Somehow they all think they need Fort Knox protection.

testing with capitals.
UPDATE: OK, it worked.
ISSUE: Gravatar.com only lets you set up your Gravatar account with lower case letters and/or numbers. I had an email from Ron C who was concerned that he wouldn’t be able to use capitals in his nom de blog if he wanted to use a gravatar.
SOLUTION: Create your gravatar account with lower case only (and numbers if you wish) but continue to use your upper case here in comments. As you can see from the capital S that I’ve used in my name for this comment, the Gravatar account has still recognised that it’s me and posted the red viggen badge.
SUMMARY – I used swade900 at Gravatar.com for the account setup and I’ve posted here with Swade900 (with the appropriate email address) and it’s worked fine. Go with lower case for your Gravatar account but use your normal case here. As long as the name and email match up, it should work.

Swade thanks for the information.
When I set up the Gravatar account I’m sure I used lower case and numbers (after the site would not accept a mix of upper and lower case). The site does not let you close an account as such so trying from scratch returns a message that the e-mail address is already in use. Given that, I went through the image selection once more so here’s hoping.

Interesting, as I used all lowercase and a totally different name on gravatar (iamgwc) given it would not accept three letters … I did however use the same e-mail account I use for this board.
Seems to work fine for me with different name but same e-mail ???
