August was a shortened month in blogging terms due to both the Olympic Games taking up a lot of my time, as well as our family holiday to Vancouver.

Still, we managed to get through a fair bit…..

——

We had a 12-year Saab sales guy write in giving us his thoughts on the things that were important for Saab’s survival. We often have our own perspectives on this from a driver’s point of view, but it’s interesting to get another point of view and I think we drivers could see the sense of what James had to say.

I got all philosophical again but also made the point that we’ve had 8 concept cars from Saab in the last 8 years. The last 8 production vehicles from Saab go back to the Saab 99 and span some 42 years.

saab91productionversion Chris S did a pretty good photochop of a production version of the Saab 9-X BioHybrid concept and Auto Motor and Sport scored some great Saab 9-4x spypics.

We talked fuels.

Saab improved it’s ratings in the latest JD Power quality study.

We had one of the great ownership stories this month, too. Long time visitor and commenter, Zippy, finally got a Saab parked in his garage, and he was very enthusiastic about it, too. A great story.

There was talk, and many comments, about the possibility of the new Saab 9-5 having a 1.6 litre four cylinder turbo. I was skeptical and disapproving, though many others weren’t.

Lance Cole gave us the low down on a Saab about which relatively little is known. Maybe you could rightly call it Saab’s first hybrid? It’s the Saab 90.

We told GM about itIT being a desire to build the Saab 9-1.

The Saab Owners Convention was on in late August. Alexandre sent through his notes from conversations with various Saab staffers. SaabUSA sent through some photos. Greg Abbott photographed all the custom plates from the convention and we wrapped it up with some final words from Steve Shannon and some great photos from Aussie Steve B, who travelled from Melbourne to the SOC for the third or fourth time.

There was the disturbing news that heated seats could be lowering your sperm count.

And finally, Left Lane News published quite possibly the best Saab 9-3 review I’ve ever seen.
