EduSaab emailed me the other day to let me know he’d stumbled across a first sighting of a 2008 Saab 9-3 in scale model form. It hadn’t crossed my mind that I hadn’t seen one yet and as I checked my usual scale model source it confirmed that Saab Expressions don’t have one yet, either.

This is the 2008 Saab 9-3 Convertible in 1:43 scale that EduSaab acquired:

A nice example and it’s in the Convertible’s best color. He picked up an Aero-X in white as well. EduSaab tells me that being a Bburago model it’s not of the highest quality with inaccurate wheels and other missing details, but at least it’s available in 2008 form.

What interested me most was the link to the seller’s other items on Ebay. Specifically this one, an Aero-X in black:

A lot of people wondered how hot this car would look in black. I’m not sure that we ever got around to photoshopping one (can’t find one during a quick search).

This gives you a quick idea and whilst some of the lines and details might be lost, I think it’s fair to say that if they ever made one, it would be referred to simply as The Hotness.

Me want (a real one)

    Is there a signature color for Saab? Like, red for Alfa Romeo or green for a Jaguar… If so, what is it? If not, what should it be? I try to think of what color I associate with Saab here in Sweden over the decades, but can’t think of any specific.

    For me, black is the Saab colour. That’s how I remember seeing 900, 9000 and 900/9-3 for the first times.

    The closest thing Saab has to a signature color is that pearl white they use only for concept cars.

    I love jet black or pure white on any Saab model but I do like it when Saab do a colour which is only on their cars, like the anniversary 9-3 and 9-5.

    I seen it after few minutes of wining the bid for the other two. I ask the seller where are from those models its response.

    Unfortunately, I don’t have an exact information about this serie of Burago SAAB exept some facts:
    - they appealed in Stockholm three weeks ago;
    - the boxes are promotional;
    - there are the following colours up to now – SAAB 9-3 Aero -white and gold metallic, SAAB Aero X – white and black

    with the black and white ones, I also ask for the other gold and black, and I have them all. I imagine he has various units available.

    As soon as I have some of them I will let you know. Another thing, I discover that NEO scale models is preparing some new Saab models. 900 PRE-GM convertible models, in different colors, white, montecarlo, black, red…. also 900 turbo MY1992 coupe and some 9000.

    I bought many diecast in this shop, its a good one. http://www.modellautohaus.de/advanced_search_result.php?currency=EUR&keywords=saab&Submit=Go&sort=3a&page=1

    also check the NEO website, http://www.neoscalemodels.com/

    On the models subject; I recently visited Desenzano, Lake Garda, Italy and having bought a 9-3ss Vector 1.9 TiD (150 bhp) MY06 at the end of July, took a look in the Model Store which I came across there.
    I saw and purchased a Universal Hobbies 1:43 scale model; the label on the box has it as “SAAB 9-3 2002, 4 doors – Metallic Red, Item 2381″. According to the shopkeeper it’s also available in Silver or Black.
    It looks remarkably like the Performance Team model available on the elkparts site – only minus the logo. I bought it for 24 euro which at the time was roughly £19.80 GBP which works out about even with elkparts current offer of two for £41.99 GBP. On closer inspection the model is badged 2.0T, but since body style and wheels match my car I can live with that. I was considering the black version as it would be nearer to mine which is Nocturne Blue.
    It may be a site you are already aware of, but being new here I’ll risk going over old news. At http://jpowell.tripod.com/saab-models-toys/ there is a pretty comprehensive list of SAAB models and toys. Admittedly it was last updated November 2005, but up to that date it seems pretty comprehensive.
