Whilst Saab’s concept cars may seem a natural for showing at the Saab Museum in Trollhattan, the sad truth is that they’re often employed as showponies for the brand at motorshows all around the world. It can take ages for the car to get back ‘home’ and be seen in Trollhattan.
This weekend, the Saab 9-X Air convertible concept will be on show for the first time at the Saab Museum in Trollhattan. The brief advertisement I received this morning from Peter Backstrom at the Saab Museum reads as follows:
Saab 9-X Air Concept Car Weekend
Saab Car Museum, Trollhättan Sweden, October 25-26.Take the opportunity to see the concept car Saab 9-X Air when it lands in Trollhättan after
the premiere at the Paris motor show!Open Saturday-Sunday 10.00-17.00. Free Entrance!
That’s Saturday and Sunday and FREE entry both days. Excellent!!
Maybe they’ll do another photoshoot a-la the one they did a few months ago with the 9-X BioHybrid and the 9-4x concept? Those two 9-Xs would look very smart posed together, I’ll bet.
Anyway, if you’re anywhere near Trollhattan, you have no excuses. And even if you’re not near Trollhattan, just jump on a cheap RyanAir flight or something and say hello to the staff at the Swania for me.

And in response to Peter’s email about this exhibition, I replied to him asking if there’s any word yet as to dates for the 2009 Saab Festival in Trollhattan.
2008 is drawing to a close and I’d have thought the program would be set by now.
I’ll let you know as soon as I hear something.

I just love this concept. I sure hope they make it a replacement for the 9-3 vert. A truly worthy replacement.
Here, here Zippy.
Are we finally going to get to see the roof in action?
I dunno, Alex, but I doubt it. I think they’ll make a big song and dance of it when the roof is finally ready for public viewing.
Fingers crossed, though. I guess the museum would be as good a place as any.
Yeah, after reading the patent drawings I’m really excited about seeing this roof in action, it looks like it could be a real game changer for the luxury convertible market. I just really hope we see this car soon, it’s the first realistic concept from saab that at least in my eyes has a chance at being as iconic as the c900 was.
The Aero X was cool but there was no way it would ever reach production looking anything like the concept, and the recent 9-X twins feel more authentically Saab-like anyways. Let’s see this vert get the green light for production!
My Dad lives in Paris and I sent him to take a look at the auto show and send me a brochure of the 9-X Air – Such a slick car
after reviewing the brochure some questions remain and some observations:
- does it have side mirrors at all?
Does the rear window go up and down (retract) to act as a rear wind deflector?
What does a Decoupled rear window mean?
If the door handles are invisible how does one open the doors?
and this from the brochure, “fold down the top and small speed-sensitive spoilers are raised at the top of the windscreen to guide airflow over the seating bay.” What the…??
and, “If you want shelter from the sun but still want to feel the wind in your hair, raise the soft top and lower the large rear glass window”….cool
And they describe the 9-X air as a “speedboat-like experience”
The front passenger has their own infotainment screen, showing navigation or streaming media
and will all 9-X airs have regenerative braking?
I am excited by the beauty of this car!! Go saab!!
