As happens every four years now that I’m all grown up, I’m completely fascinated and entralled by the US election. I’ve mentioned it once here at TS already and the comments section nuked itself within about an hour, so comments are closed on this one. This blog is about Saabs, not politics, but a couple of entries over at Jalopnik have me giving myself permission to get all polled up, just this once.
The first Jalop story concerns their recent role as judges/executioners at the recent 24 Hours of LeMons race in Texas. As distributors of punishments to teams seen to be contravening the rules (or for whatever reason they decide is appropriate) the judges got to have a little election-themed fun with a few teams.
The McCain-themed punishment was the McCain Uphill Slog and teams who copped this penalty had to literally push their car up a hill whilst wearing a McCain mask before they were allowed to continue in the race.
The Obama-themed punishment was called the “Change you can believe in” penalty, where teams were given some paint and marker pens and had to completely change the look/theme of their vehicle prior to re-entering the race.
The Saab connection?
The most prominent and successful team under the Obama penalty were driving a Saab 900! You can see the full details of the penalties and the resulting pictures here at Jalopnik.

The other article was a bit more closely related to what we’re about to do here. A poll. A car poll as related to each candidate’s demographics.
According to Kelley Blue Book www.kbb.com Marketing Research, the car brand and segment owned by voters is related to their preference in presidential candidates. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) rates high among domestic and luxury owners. Among the domestic brands, owners of GMC (61 percent), Chevrolet (60 percent), Buick and Dodge (each at 58 percent), as well as Ford (57 percent) vehicles are the highest in favor of McCain. In the luxury vehicle segment, McCain leads among Lexus, BMW, and Lincoln owners at 52 percent each.
Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) leads McCain among owners of import vehicles with the highest ratings for MINI (70 percent), Subaru (61 percent), and Saab (59 percent). Fifty percent of Honda owners plan on voting for Obama, ten points higher than McCain.
So it’s time to test Kelley Blue Book sample with our own sample here at Trollhattan Saab.
Who are you voting for? Or who would you vote for if you were able to?
The poll is completely anonymous, you can only vote once and comments are closed so there’ll be no arguing and calling each other names.

Wow. What an outcome!
I’m sure the result on polling day will be somewhat closer, but it’ll be interesting to compare.
Thanks to all who voted.
