More 9-X photoshopping

A week or so ago I bought you a fantastic bit of photoshop work from Z. You all left your thoughts and comments about it and Z’s taken those comments on board and produced two new versions of the same image.

Here’s the original image, a 9-X coupe:

In the following image, Z’s taken his first effort and grafted in a bit of the early Saab shape – the classic hockey stick from the 99 and 900.

And just to take things that little bit further, why not add a bit more of the 900 in the form of the rear window spoiler?

I’m probably a bit more partial to the first effort, but it’s interesting to try and blend some of the old and the new.

Thanks again, Z!

  1. This seriously looks hot! If it was available to buy I would start saving now! (but also need some money for a 9-4x if it is good when it comes out)

  2. Agreed, The reverse hockey stick approach pushes a 900 coupe into the 21st century. However the car needs a full panoramic roof with a Targa opening…

My engine choice 1.6T pushing 230hp and FWD

  3. I disagree with you Swade. When you first put up Z’s original picture last week, some commenters thought it looked as though it could have been made by some other manufacturer.

But look at that last picture, with the 900-style rear window. Could that be anything but a Saab?

  4. Respectfully I have to disagree with you too Swade, I think the Saab “hockey stick” design is MORE progressive than the other. Not only does it look infinitely better, it makes better use of available real estate and would provide better visibility from inside the car. I don’t think you have to abandon a strong design cue in order to advance to the next level. The reverse hockey stick looks too much like a Nissan or some other Japanese design to me. Very nice work Z! This is looking like a Saab I could get excited about!

  5. After looking at the first two pics, I have to agree with MarkS. The hockey stick rear window seems to have better visibility. That would be a nice option. But as for the rear window spoiler, it just doesn’t look right.

  6. Spoiler or no spoiler I would buy it in a heartbeat. To me the hockey stick change looks like the perfect update to my 900 3 door (and my 2000 9-3 5 door). Of course they’ll never build it as it’s not just another sedan.

  7. The third picture is the best. “If you secure the design in the past so you can see a link to the products you have done before you’re much closer to making a timeless design.” – Einar Hareide

I like the 900 style rear window.

  8. I’ve always fancied a pillarless hardtop Saab coupe even if it doesn’t have a hatch. The hatch just makes it more practical for day to day use. That’s what I’ve always liked about Saab coupes and it’s been missing to too long now! Richo: What concept number is this?

  9. GM, if you can you recognize a hit when you see one, open your eyes wide.
I agree with the majority, the hockey stick versions link the past with the future with amazing grace. Here’s hoping the future becomes the present very quickly!
