Images from Top Gear Australia
As a post-script to my quick review of Top Gear Australia’s first episode last night, Trent W has been kind enough to shoot through a handful of images from the show.
I wrote about the soft-roader story and how Charlie Cox got the Toyota Rav4 airborne when he failed to stop at the finish line of the dune race.
Here it is:
Here’s Australian actor Vince Colosimo with a picture of his first Saab, a 900 Aero. Apparently he still drives Saabs today, currently pushing a 9-5 Aero around.
And finally, a still from when they tried to lure a Great White in to eat a Mini Moke.

The show copped a fair bit of flak on some fronts today, with people criticising the rapport between the presenters and some of the story scripts.
Me? I think it was a great first effort. Being in front of a camera doesn’t come naturally to everyone and I thought the guys did well. It can only get better.
The good news is that the show rated really, really well. So much so that they’re already pencilling in a second series.

I´ve just finished watching the first episode.. Wow it´s realy thrilling to see that guy talking about his Saab eventhough he´s totally unknown to me.
And yes.. the audience realy need to loosen up and the guys to get into role. I´m sure next episode will be better in that aspect.
Good luck TG Oz!
I haven’t seen the show yet…. but go watch the first episode of the new format of Top Gear. It was complete crap compared to the show that we now know and love.

First of the new format? Where can that be found?
I think that trying to imitate the presenters directly with their UK counterparts was simply just impossibly stupid. How can 3 adults (2 of which never had previous TV experience) possibly be expected to directly imitate other people? Top Gear UK started off simple, they did their own thing and started basic and let it develop itself. The first episodes were probably almost solely survived as a result of Jeremy’s infectious presenting style, and actually I personally am a fan of the car reviews most of all and think it would of been better to give these guys a easy gig to start with and just allow them to test out some cars for themselves. Even if they had no studio audience for the first show and just made it a big challenge (like the TGUK when they went to America) this would give them more freedom and also give them a chance to gel a bit. Any Top Gear show can not be bound in invisible chains and expected to act as stage puppets for other presenters. If BBC (as apparently they own the production company responsible) was responsible for destroying this then scrap em and fund it ourselves, and start off again with barely any props etc. if necessary, just allow these guys to do what they want with just a basic procedure script as to what is to happen in the show and in what order.
