As ctm notes in comments, the cgi image published by Autovisie of a possible 9-X Convertible concept car isn’t the first time we’ve seen this car.
This is Autovisie’s image once again:
Now, flip it around, make it white (or snow silver) and a little simpler, and you have this image:

That image was a basic attempt by ctm to see what the original 9-X BioHybrid concept would look like as a convertible. He did a 5-minute photochop and emailed it to me, and I promptly posted it here as a bit of fun back on March 12th.
They’ve added some mirrors and door handles, flipped it around so it points to the right, thrown a little more weight at the back and a color change, and voila!
Whilst Autovisie may or may not have a story to tell (there’s been no confirmation of a 9-X ‘vert in Paris….. yet) please note that thanks to ctm’s foresight, the first ‘vert image appeared right here at TS

I’m willing to renounce all legal claims as long as Saab build the damn thing!

News today that the 9-1 is not longer on the table as an own car based on the corsa, but is more likely to come as a 3 door version of the 9-3 similar to Volvo C30.

Isn’t this in line with some Djup Strupe info that we had here some months ago? That the 9-1/9-2 and the 9-3 will use the same platform and basically be the same car, but that the 9-1/9-2 notation would be used for the hatchback version (and maybe a small vert).

The proces you described here is most probably the way it was created.
The back of the top looks very much like the Audi A3 conv.
I like it anyway.

ctm, I don’t recall any Djup Strupe information to that effect. I think there’s been a few speculators in comments thinking that way, but I’m quite sure that I haven’t committed that to print by way of info sent to me.

swade, correct. I found it, and it’s an article from a Swedish newspaper:
http://www.trollhattansaab.net/archives/2008/05/aftonbladet-on-the-future-saab-9-3.html
I wonder if the 9-2 that is mentioned in that article is the same as the 9-1 that cj:s links refer to.

Well, just my thoughts but i do not see this as entierly negative. To build more versions of the new 9-3 would not be entierly negative. The corsa is not exactly a large car, and to make money on that you need volume.
Volvo have done the C30 a nice looking car, and quite alot smaller than the S40/V50, but i think the miss a 5 door version of the C30 similar to the A3.
I do not think we should be fooled by the 9-3 being smaller / not bigger. After all the improtant space is between the axels, and if they just can move the rear wheels a little bit further back then can make quite a lot of room inside, and hopefully make the back seat roomy.
If they then could add a feature so that the back sofa could slide 10cm or so it would make the luggage space flexible…
Given the size of the annual sales its important to have the models far appart to attract may different customers and make alot of each model, hence the cross over model of the 9-3 and hopefully the future 9-5 paired with the 9-4.
Given the convertible herritage i would not be saad if 2 convertibles where derived of the 9-3, one 2 seater, more sport coupe like and one 4 seater.

I kind of thought the 9-X BH wouldn’t really translate to a smaller Corsa platform. It looks slightly bigger than a current Astra, so I’m guessing it’s around 4.3 metres long and probably about the size of the next Astra? Can’t anyone smuggle out some dimensions? It’s strange, we got all the dimenesions for the 9X and 9-3X, but not a thing on the 9-X BH.
I hope the next 9-3 comes in at 4.5 to 4.6 metres for both the hatch and the sedan/wagon.
The whole 9-2/9-3 Golf/Jetta thing keeps getting regurgitated, so maybe there’s some truth in it?
For my own part, I’d prefer that wasn’t the case as I’m hoping for a Mazda 6 style hatch/sedan arrangement with a 3 door version. Anyway all we can do is speculate.
Zippy you are probably right, another concept car going nowhere other than the Saab museum. It wouldn’t make much sense displaying a covertible version if that is the case, so maybe we won’t see it?
