Saab Classic 900 vs. the Bear

Vive la 900 classique!! (I wish I knew the Finnish equivalent. It would be unpronounceable anyway, but it would be appropriate.)

From Riku1100s, a regular reader here at TS, comes the link for this gem. He was inspired by Swade’s musings about bears.

I love this clip! Why, for crying out loud, wouldn’t they have used this as advertising in North America??? You could have subtitled it in English, and used a tag line such as “Scandanavian tested, so you don’t have to.”, “Saab: It’s even bear proof.”, or “Saab saves lives — again.”

And, Saab, give it up. Bring back the hatch. The C900 hatch was the most versatile car that I ever owned.

Watch.

  1. OMG! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    That video is priceless!

    This campaign would WIN (globally):
    “Saab: It’s even bear proof.”

“And, Saab, give it up. Bring back the hatch.”

Ditto that. In 9-3 and 9-5 flavors, please.

  2. If they redid the classic 5 door 900, it would be my next car, providing of course it gets good gas mileage.

Eläköön classic 900 ! (according to Google)
All I remember in Finnish is kipiss for cheers and passi for passport.

  3. Hehe, I remember that this add was on a television when I was much younger! Its really hilarious!!

I´ll have to remind you about this, even older one: Saab 9000 – adv from Finland.

As good as it gets!! Bunch of funny finns having fun the usual winter way.. And in the end it says – Saab, made in FInland. They used to make also 9000s in Valmet factory back then.

  4. Was the 9000s LPT only produced in Finland or in Trollhättan also?

That clip is even better Marko!

    Hyvää Poika!

  5. Great ad. Shows why Saab should bring the hatch back (pun intended).

Seriously, if Saab doesn’t release a hatchback version of the new 9-5, I will ship several bags of Aussie sand to GM so that certain people can keep their heads buried. And that goes double if the next 9-3 doesn’t have hatch models!

  6. That commercial is very funny but little “awkward” if one’s comparing it to nowadays’ commercials.

I remember when that commercial was broadcasted. Back then it was quite usual that Finnish people did their own commercials. Nowadays they’re just dubbing multinational foreign commercials or equipping them with subtitles.

I don’t remember any 9000s to be manufactured by the factory in Uusikaupunki (Nystad) but they manufactured many C900s and even last OG9-3s (last one was manufactured on the 23rd of April 2003). After that last OG9-3 Uusikaupunki factory was done with Saab. Now they’re only manufacturing Porsche which is a shame since they manufactured quite many Saabs over there.
