Saab 900 Aero prototype restoration continues
Last year I brought Peter W’s work to your attention, work that involves the restoration of a very special Saab 900. Saab made a small number of what I guess you could call Aero prototypes in pearl white paint back in 1984.
When Peter found one for sale in late 2006, he snapped it up and immediately got to work on bringing it back to life. It was lucky he started straight away as there was a lot to do:
The recent spring and summer in Sweden have seen Peter hard at work, and the following update photos will show you just how far he’s come.
This thread at SaabCentral will give you a lot of progressive photos, but the shots below show the project as it currently stands. I believe Peter wants to get it ready for the Saab Festival in 2009 (though I may be recalling that incorrectly).
He’s doing an extraordinary job with this and I can’t wait to bring more shots as the project as it progresses. It’s looking fantastic so far, and this really is a car that should be preserved.

what a fantastic thing he is doing. It will look as new as the turbo that was done by GM in America. I’m looking forward to seeing it all complete. Well done Peter.
I haven’t seen the SC thread in a while, but remembering the before pictures, the progress is absolutely amazing. It was far beyond parts car status…
I love it. Plaese publish a book about the history, the story and the process we will line to buy it. Also as I was planning to do the same what you came to the order or assembly as per the pictures looks od. I back out of a full restorations since I found an almost new california car and I will take this car to travel in patagonia Argentina
Fantastic!!! Trylu fantastic job!! Cannot wait to see this car finished!
And while we´re talking about this magnificent car, where is this colour again?? GM/Saab? They could make 25 anniversary next year, to celebrate first Aero ever and release 9-3SS/SC in Pearl White with red leather interior. And probably some different airflow panels, front & rear? What would you think??
Great work… my freind makes something similiar. He restore
900/I Cabrio.
MarkoA, I think you’re a genius! I love the idea.
FANTASTIC
Oh and doesn’t that Classic 900 five door in red look bl..dy brilliant on those alloys wheels - which are Saab design - are they not? Those wheels give a really superb stance to that car.
I feel a C900 moment coming on damn it.
Loving that red 900 just quietly!!!
Lance, I agree…that 5-door is beautiful too! I really NEED another 900!!!!!!!
wowwww. GORGEOUS… if only i could buy a new one…
