Djup Strupe and the 2009 Saab 9-3

Our friend(s) on the inside have been busy. Today we have word that the Turbo X wheels are going to continue, though Turbo X owners will be pleased to note it will be in a different form. We’ve also got some samples of new colors for you to peruse.

Vehicles with Turbo X styled wheels (we need a name for these wheels) have been seen in the proximity of the Trollhattan plant, said to be XWD V6 Aero models, though I have a photo below that suggests it might be a wider release than that. Note that these wheels are a single color, rather than the two tone found on the Turbo X. I’m sure some of the single color versions will find their way into private paint shops pretty quickly :-)

Did I say photos?!! Absolutely. Click away.

And here’s the new Carbon Grey Metallic in a Saab cgi, with another set of very nice rims :-)

And this could well be Glass Grey Metallic.

Thanks to Djup Strupe for keeping the information rolling in!!

That Carbon Metallic color looks pretty darn spectacular i you ask me. I’ll take two of ‘em!

Once again dark colours :-( I just wonder when Saab will introduce lighter kind of colours for regular 9-3s, not just for cabriolet…

Is that “Glass Grey” really primer? We should be told…

      Suggested names for the wheels:

3V or triple V since there seem to be three pairs of spokes.

      Paired 6-spoke, paired hex

      Name for the wheels:
the Trefoil, as in the symbol for radioactivity:

It was hard to imagine Saab not re-birthing the Turbo X wheels. 2000 X 4 is just not enough. Great news!

That light colour makes those wheels to look a bit too humble. I really like the colour of Turbo X.

Btw, I finally managed to see Turbo X in person the other day. It was on the dealers parking area without plates. It really looks mean, just as the halo model should!

Djup Strupes reading this: Please, spy shots of the coming 9-3x (allroad that is)!!!???

Note how the convertible also has the ‘titanium’ trim strip across the rear. Given the Turbo-X did not come in convertible form, it looks like titanium trim bits will also trickle down to other varieties of the 9-3. Outside of colored wheels, I don’t see how the ‘09 Aero will differ from the ‘08 Turbo X.

Love those wheels on the black 9-3

Anyone else who has seen the new gold paint? Saw it about an week ago leaving Tekniska at Saab Trollhättan, it was a 9-3 conv, and i must say, best colour for the conv to date.

    • Bernard said:

Those aren’t colours, they are shades of grey. It seems like the current Saab palette consists mostly of shades of grey or brown. I know there are a few exceptions, but not nearly enough.

    • saabyurk said:

Bernard: Kinda like Audi’s new color palette at sniffpetrol.

It would be nice to have some real colors. There hasn’t been a nice green color for the 9-3 and 9-5 for a long time. Saab, please bring back Sun Green from the earlier models…! :)

what is the car in the background of the “sportcombi” shot?

    • rpg said:

max, it’s a cadillac bls. basically a rebadged 9-3 for the european market.

    • max said:

thats what i thought, must be one of 125 that they sold…..Thanks

    • Jörgen Trued said:

      The convertible has VIN no:YS3FH76Y196000018
The car looks almost like it was filmed black & White! WOW!

    • zippy said:

That Glass Grey sure looks nice but I DEMAND Arctic White for the SS/SC….please!? :)

    • Markac said:

Like the new colours, but sorry I still hate the generic GM door handles. They always remind me of a Holden Commodore. At least the vert still has proper Saab ones.

I realize there is such a thing as “economy of scale”, but they need to work out a way of using the generic GM mechanism with a Saab style handle. It may seem like a small thing, but one by one all those ingredients that make up a Saab seem to be vanishing….

    • Alex said:

THANK YOU SAAB for offering the Turbo X rims in a light silver color. I have been waiting for a suitably weird and Saaby 18″ replacement for the 3-spoke klingons on my Aero and I was praying that Saab would sell the Turbo X rims without that pesky $40k car attached to them.

    • Sensonic said:

By the way, is there already any information about the manual gearbox of 1.8t model? Some German djupstrupe told earlier that each and every 9-3 will be equipped with 6 gear gearbox (with the exception of 1.8i) but what I’ve heard so far from different sources is that there won’t be any gearbox changes for MY 2009.

I’d be quite eager to know the truth since I’m 99% sure I’m gonna order 1.8t Sport Combi when the official Finnish price lists will come out.

    • Jeff K said:

      top pic looks partially desaturated.

    • MarkoA said:

Sensonic, pricelist from Norway shows 1.8t M5. Unfortunately.

    • blackturbo said:

      @ Alex re: wheel availibility

Turbo X Wheels are already available as a special order, even if you don’t own the car. So its possible to get the same two tone rims. I was considering putting them on my viggen, but trashed the idea when financials were squeezed.

Now I would want the silver version!

    • Alex said:

I wonder how they would look as a reverse two-tone, like silver bodies with gunmetal highlights or something like that
