Steve S spouting the state of Saab in Sherman Oaks today
Just a heads up, thanks to Gripen…
Steve Shannon will be a Saab of Sherman Oaks in Los Angeles today talking about the state of Saab (I wonder if he checked here before preparing the speech?).
It’s an invitational event, though I’m sure if you live nearby and you wanted to pop in they would welcome you with an aperitif and a nibbly. Tell ‘em Swade sent you.
The program is as follows:
- 10:00 AM - Welcome, light refreshments at Saab of Sherman Oaks, Turbo X on display in showroom
10:30 AM - “State of Saab”, presentation highlighting Turbo X, given by Steve Shannon, Saab USA General Manager
11:00 AM - Q and A, media interviews
11:15 AM - Lunch buffet available
12:30 PM - Event concludes.
I wonder what’s bringing the troops to LA this week? Ah, media interviews is probably a decent clue, and it explains why S-USA comms guru Jan-Willem Vester is also in attendance. Gotta stay on-message.
Go well, gents. Why not let us know how it goes?

I did not like Steve’s last dealer round table meeting held some time ago… When I reviewed the video, some dealer owners and technicians put some very good questions to Steve regarding Saab decline. He “moved and grooved” around most of the “quality” questions.
Goodness, I hope that they don’t spend too long talking to that absolute dork Dan Neil of the LA Times. Mr. Obvious, and he’s made a career of it.
His opinions on politics and environmental policy are whack, too.
Steve: Stay away from Dan Neil!!!!
15 minutes for Q&A? Doesn’t seem like much time time for media to ask questions.
Perhaps it’s designed that way on purpose.
Swade, sorry for the off-topic question, but I wanted to ask about the “allroad” XWD Combi. Are there any spy photos yet?? Will this vehicle be available in 2008, as originally announced? I’m quite anxious to see this ‘car,’ almost as much as the new 9-5.
Thanks!
I´m with Johnk. I would really like to see/read something about XC 9-3XWD-whateveritis.
There´s been no word from Saab. Will there be diesel version? Automatic option? Any special features, except some visual exterior details?
I seem to remember that the head of the U.S. Saab Dealers’ Association is based at CASA Automotive Group (owner of Saab of Sherman Oaks). I’m guessing that’s why this event is being held there.
I thank JWV and Saab USA for the invitation, but I had to respectfully decline as today was my son’s elementary school graduation and it conflicted with this event.
