Yellow edition limited to 140 units in the US

Last month, when the press release for the 9-3 Convertible Yellow Edition was sent out, the edition was believed to be limited to around 300 units. It turns out it’s gong to be even rarer than that.

Nico has sent through a copy of an email from Saab USA, stating that the Yellow Edition will be limited to just 140 units.

Saab Convertible YellowForget about mellow. This yellow’s designed to agitate. Invigorate. And accelerate. This 9-3 takes the pursuit of freedom in a stylish new direction — from its unique, eye-catching color to its spoiler, 17″ alloy wheels and 6-disc CD changer. And under the hood, you’ll be happy to discover, it’s still pure Saab. A 4-cylinder, 210-hp turbo engine delivers more excitement than some people can handle. But something tells us you’re probably up for it.

Here are just a few of the features that set this vehicle apart:

300W 10-speaker premium audio system, with 6-disc CD changer
    Rear spoiler
    Lynx Yellow exterior paint
    17″ 5-spoke alloy wheels
Parchment or Black leather-appointed interior available

So, if you don’t mind standing out in a crowd, fly into your nearest Saab dealer soon. Because only 140 will be sold in the U.S.

The Yellow Edition has an MSRP of $42,830, which includes destination charges.

Limited edition Yellow Viggen Convertibles in 2000. I have heard the figure 34 units worldwide. Can someone confirm this?

Lynx Yellow Convertible Package ($2,495) includes

      (04U) Lynx Yellow exterior paint
      (D81) rear trunk mounted spoiler
      (QU9) 17″ x 7.5″ (43.2 cm x 19.1 cm) 5-spoke alloy wheels
      (US9) AM/FM stereo with 6-disc in-dash CD changer, and (U61) 300-watt amplifier and 10-speaker audio system

Seperately, the stereo upgrade is $895 and wheels upgrade is $750 for a total of $1,645. That comes to $850 for the yellow paint and spoiler. Usually, with “special edition” vehicles, I’d expect some special value but this just seems a regular car with a few options. Plus a reason for Saab to publish a press release…

I saw one of these at the dealership today when I took my car in for servicing. It looks spectacular. Almost as “instant classic” looking as the old white 900s, if you know what I mean.

    • max said:

limited because the dealers won’t/don’t want to order them….they will be classics all right….no support from GM to Saab dealers…

We had one… Sold the day after it was pre-delivery inspected.

max, I’m not sure what you mean by “no support”? The only real difference is paint and seat leather… Everything else is just like any other 9-3SS 08+ vert.

Wulf - good point. Special package doesn’t mean they should rip people off.

      Hot car though….

What i mean is that GM has driven Saab sales down like its the last leg of a rollercoaster ride. No support to the dealers, no real new products in reasonable sight, and they just raised prices across the board and have lowered incentives on all Saabs. Only real incentives are on the Chevy Trailblazer-9-7X which gets a whopping 15mpg. Gee Thanks GM. I wonder when GM will give Cadillac the 9-5? Oh, gee I guess Cadillac gave us the 9-5 re…Catera. It’s been so long ago I almost forgot… I wonder how the Cadillac dealers would be doing if they were still selling the Catera? Thats what I mean by GM not giving any support, and I could bring up about 13000 other cases including all the costs that GM has been pushing onto the dealers. Its truly the 8th wonder of the world why the Saab dealers have not revolted against GMs treatment of the “Red-headed” stepchild. The latest GM bozo statement was at a Crosswheel drive ride and drive. “Saab CSI is low because the dealers are not showing the owners how to turn the radio on and off, and how to operate the cruise control” Idiocy…pure idiocy. Get real GM

max said “no real new products in reasonable sight”.

The 9-4 and 9-x would represent a doubling of the lineup. Let’s also not forget that the 9-3 is composed of 3 different, unique, different cars.

Saab dealers have not had a “new Saab” since 2003 and won’t have any until 2010. Wake up the 9-7X and the ill fated 9-2X were not new to anyone in the market…..unless they were under the GM spell…..and the 2003 9-3 was a disaster (not selling) in quality when it came out and really was not a decent unit until 2006. By then the smell was not from a rose it was from a p-g.
