Turbo X wheels on a Viggen?

UPDATED!!! - Black Viggen below.

——

I am the photoshop gimp.

Given that that’s the case, I was very pleased when Rogan whipped up a photochop of a Viggen wearing some Turbo X wheels. I love the “X” wheels and I have a Viggen getting repaired, so naturally I was very interested in seeing the results.

Here’s the image. Click.

Viggen X

Hmmmmmm.

The jury’s still out, in my mind. They don’t quite match up as well as I thought they would. Maybe they really need a black car to set them off properly? Maybe I’m just too used to seeing five-spokes on a Viggen, or Double-Y’s on that Saab body shape?

Something just hasn’t clicked here for me. It’s like seeing Paris Hilton at church or Dubya at a university. It’s just. not. right.

Thoughts?

UPDATE

Thanks to JA37 we can see what they’d look like on a black Viggen. Much better! Click to enlarge, or click here if the re-size doesn’t work so well.

I’ve seen worse. But it’s not an obvious connection, either.

I bet they would look better on my black 9-5 Aero !

No, it doesn’t work for me. I see this a lot with the 6er where folks put later model wheels on and the different design philosophies clash. I’d look through all the wheel designs from the time of the Viggens original release to find something that matches perfectly.

Yeah, they don’t really work. I’d like to see them on a black car but I don’t think they’d work there, either.

They don’t work, but maybe that new Inca style wheel would?

I would rather put the double-Y’s than the X’s… ;) It doesn’t look bad with the X’s, but i bet they would look great on a black one…

I was wondering about this a couple of months back and ’shopped some on my car… I think a coat of Jet Black paint and some titanium accents and we may have a winner…

I’ve been mulling over how these rims would look on my black viggen. I have a friend sourcing info on them as I type. Anyone have photoshop and want to put these rims on a black viggen?

I was just approving the comment, above, and adding the photo as you wrote this, Tim :-) - SW

I like them on the black better. Looks like more of a solid piece.

I wonder how they would look on the Barbie Campervan… anyone care to mock it up?

The clash with the Blue Vigg is more pronounced as these wheels are quite dark and meant to match a black body. It is evident on the black Vigg as they look quite well but the classic flavor/look is a bit lost. However, the Vigg as well as the 01/02 Aeros look awesome with 18″ BBSs despite the loss of the classicism. I think a Vigg wearing the TurboX wheels in the flesh may surprise us all. One option may be to lighten up these wheels a bit so that the Blue matches them better. For those who noticed my absence, I am back in town !!!

Blue Viggen- wheels need to be Saab ALU 36 double Y alloys. No more to be said.

The old 9-3 was a fuller rounded plumper looking car than the new 9-3. The Viggen wheels with their thin spokes contrasted with the car to give the Viggen a shaper edgier look than the standard 9-3 while the rounded edges of the wheels blended well with the curves of the car. This was a radical departure from most others of the old 9-3 wheels. They provided a blend of fullness with sharp lines. This complemented the fullness of the body style but reduced the softness of the car. My favorite of these are the ‘05 9-5 Aero wheels. If you want to accentuate the plumpness of the Viggen, the newer wheels are great. If you want an edgier, leaner look then you need thinner spokes than is typical for SAAB. My favorite of these are the Ronal RT or the similar LZ, which both SAAB and BMW offer (offered?) as OEM parts, but are probably cheaper direct from Ronal.

Thinking again, the best wheels for a creator and sponsor of this site and trusted source for what is really going on should be the most eccentric SAAB wheels there are, the wheels that scream BORN FROM JETS, FOLLOW YOUR OWN ROAD, etc. These wheels are the Anniversary wheels featured on last year’s 9-3 and 9-5 Anniversary special edition SAABs. (The Inca wheels from the 900 Turbo would be nice but won’t fit. I understand you have another place that you could put those if you wanted to.)

Nothing looks better on a Viggen than Viggen wheels.

Do they even have the same bolt pattern as the Viggen in the first place??

I think they look pretty good, but they do clash with the plumper more rounded styling of the OG9-3, especially with it’s big Viggen bumpers.

I would like to see how they look on 9-5’s though, I think the 9-5 has much more in common with the 9-3SS in terms of proportions and details and those Turbo X rims could look fantastic on one.

I really want these wheels. Has anyone found them for purchase or replicas?
