Below is a copy of an invite being sent out to potential customers by Herb Chambers Saab in Boston. The event comprises two feature nights for the Saab Turbo X on May 20th and 21st. I assume they’ll have a fair chunk of their Turbo X fleet on the ground by then.

If you’re in the area and interested in going to the event, you can email an RSVP to saabsales@herbchambers.com. Tell them Trollhattan Saab tipped you off in your email. And when you’re there you can tell the people at HCS how much you’d appreciate them sposoring Trollhattan Saab on an ongoing basis.

“Its the second Saab I have seen this week”
That’s sad.

You should try Adelaide. Sometimes you can go a week without seeing a single Saab, but in some suburbs you might see five in one day!
I’ll have to drive by Metro Holden, sorry Metro Saab and see if they have a TurboX.

There’s a very strong Alfa population in Adelaide. Must be something in the water there. There’s definitely something funny about the place

Swade: You’re right about Adelaide, it’s a very funny place when it comes to Saab owners. It’s the only state in Oz without a Saab club branch.
I’ve tried to start one several times over the years, but it’s always been a case of “give me a call when you get it up and running”.
BTW I test drove an Alfa 159 about 18 months ago. Not too bad.

There are 7 Saabs just in our condo garage (out of about 100 places). Three are less than two years old. A couple are classics. I walk to work daily and see at east a couple on the road. Still a small minority, but not invisible. Four cylinders for the most part (with gas around C$1.35 a liter, smart move).

I see a lot of Saabs on the road in Maryland. 2 in my driveway. At least 3 or 4 on the drive in (10 miles). Maybe 5 or 6 at work.

You couldn’t pick a more Saab-friendly place than Boston. I just moved here, and it’s Saab-central. I counted six 9-3 SSes, four NG900s and 1st-gen 9-3s, and five 9-5s on a short dog walk yesterday … okay, so two of the SSes were mine, but still, that’s a lot of Saabs to see on just a couple of blocks. I love it; they get a lot of respect here.

With the price of gasoline rising to record highs, I think if this trend continues through the summer come Spring, when the new car models go on sale I could see the 2.0T 9-3 with XWD being a HUGE seller in the northeast U.S. as people abandon their gas-guzzling SUVs and trucks looking for something more fuel-efficient but still having AWD required for the snowy winters up there.
East coast Saab dealers: be ready to capitalize on the high price of fuel this spring and advertise Saabs regionally like mad! Tout them as the AWD alternative to gas-guzzling SUVs. Sell the XWD combi as an alternative with similar interior space and towing capacity as compact SUVs but with better fuel economy.
This might come at a cost to 9-7X and 9-5 sales (9-7X being a gas-hog and 9-5 not having AWD), but those models are stalling in sales anyway.

All I can say is - go and see it.
I’m picking mine up tomorrow. I got a “preview” tonight. This car is amazing. I’m not bragging really - just telling you this is a sea-change for Saab. Wow. Go see and drive this car if you can.

Seeing how “on-the-ball” these dealers are about pushing the TurboX, makes me weep since I can’t even find a salesguy in Seattle who knows it only comes in one color.

Anyone in Australia thinking about buying a TurboX had better pay for it soon. The morons in our new Labor government are planning to raise the Luxury car tax from 25% to 30% on cars over $A57,000. This will affect the price of many new Saabs. The TurboX will be even more ridiculously priced. I hope Labor’s plans are defeated.
