I think all 99T enthusiasts will agree that this is the best Saab Owner’s Convention logo ever.

SOC

Kudos to whoever designed that one.

The Saab Owner’s Convention for 2008 is going to be held from August 21-24 at the Deven Commons Center, Devens, MA. Registrations have just opened so if you’re planning on attending, click here to sign up and order your additional SOC swag.

I’ll actually be in North America at the time, too, and while it’s tempting to hop a flight over, it won’t be possible this time, unfortunately.

——

Jan-Ake Jonsson’s telling China they’ll get a small Saab in the reasonably near future. That’s encouraging for the possibility of a Saab 9-1, though don’t read anything into the actual dates mentioned.

——

I wonder how many garments have been sold from the Pure BioPower Eco Clothing Collection.

I’m almost willing to bet that more have been given away than have been sold.

——

A Saab was involved in a real-world variation of the moose test in the UK recently, though in this instance it was a horse.

A 46-year-old woman was riding a horse through Grenoside Woods when it was “spooked” and bolted into the path of grey Saab on Stephen Lane.

The rider suffered serious leg injuries and her horse was killed.

Poor horsey.

The driver of the Saab was fine.

Some Swedes are coming to my home town to play the greatest game in the world!

Few Swedes have even heard of Australian Football let alone played it. Yet the sport has already outgrown the Australian expatriate community, and increasing numbers of Swedes are playing too. The fact that a national team will be in Australia this August representing Sweden in the International Cup is a measure of how far the game has come.

“It’s a fantastic sport!” says Andreas Svensson, “In Sweden we watch soccer where nothing really happens. But in Aussie Rules things are happening every single minute.”

Absolutely. It’s athletic, graceful, technical and brutal all at the same time.

Here’s a taste of what they’ll be getting up to. Best game in the world.

Good luck, you Elks!

Funny you should mention this Swade; I just rented “The Club” for the long Memorial Day weekend here in the USA. This was on a very old VHS tape, but it was still a cracking good movie– more of a boardroom drama than footy action film, but still worth seeking out.

As I mentioned before, Americans are not entirely footy illiterate; there’s a local amateur team of (mostly) expats here in Portland, and there will be a tournament here on 14-15 June with teams from Seattle, Portland, Denver, and Vancouver and Burnaby. B.C., Canada participating. In fact, the Vancouver team will be playing local area matches through August– if you get homesick during your visit to North America… check it out. No, it isn’t the Premiership, but it sure beats baseball.
