Swedish Sales data - May 2008
Saab sales for Sweden are in, and it’s a case of steady as she goes for Saab in their own market.
Sales of the 9-3 are still rising, though not at the rate they once were. There’s possibly a few alarm bells ringing at Saab at the performance of the VW Golf this month, which raised sales by 98.1% in the month to outsell the Saab 9-3. Volvo also had two vehicles that outsold the Saab 9-3 during the month, with the V50 and the new V70 both outselling Saab’s top model.
Saab 9-3
There were 1,175 vehicles sold during April, up 11.6% on last year. So far in 2008 there’s been 4,592 vehicles sold, which is up 24.9% on last year.
Saab 9-5
There were 575 vehicles sold during April, which is 45.8% less than the number sold in April 2007. For the year to date, there have been 2601 vehicles sold, which is down 35.8%.

Of the 1,175 Saab 9-3s sold, 779 were E85 and 285 were Diesel.

Good? Bad? Indifferent?

The Golf’s performance just happens to show how much Saab needs the 9-1.
Markac-I was just about to say the same thing! Should someone e-mail these sales stats to GM? They’d probably decide to build a “Caddyhatch” anyway and attempt to make Cadillac Sweden’s favorite car.
Ye I know why Im waiting , I dont like the new “dave edna” style on the front as well as the bad designon on the speed meter (bad GM very bad ) to much of nothing . Simole and stylish thats what should be there and not a bad designed website . we seen it before but never in a saab . Get it back on track again
I guess the Opel Astra doesn’t look good against the VW Golf either?
MarkS: Golf sized Caddie? Perish the thought!
“The Golf’s performance just happens to show how much Saab needs the 9-1.”
Or rather an 9-2! A Saab 9-1 should be compete against the Polo.
BMW is considering a car below the 118. What would be Saab´s answere? 9-0? 9-nothing?
Michael: I think the 9-2 designation is a bit tarnished now? A small Corsa based Saab could be a 9-0.5, but that would be many years away unless it’s just a badge engineered Opel.
Think the increase for the golf is because of an ethanol version going on sale… probably lots of customers that had been waiting for that one
