Saturday Night Snippets

I’ve read car reviews, and car comparisons, writeups from track days and diaries from economy runs. There’s all sorts of automotive content out there, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a review that spends all of it’s time talking about a roof.

So, first question: what do YOU think of the sand roof on the black body?

Saab 9-3 Convertible

I’m a fan. This sand top would also look great on white, too, IMHO.

The review is supposed to be about the car, but really does spend the majority of it’s time on the roof: the color, the insulation, the opening and closing, the look. It’s rooforama! And it’s a good, quick, and recommended read.

Kenneth is the name of the guy whose Turbo X SportCombi was featured here earlier today. I also showed a photo of the fantastic keyring that Saab are giving Turbo X owners when they take delivery of the car.

I’d just like to say that right at this moment, I’d like to be Kenneth.

He just dropped me a note to say that today he’s jumping into his Saab Turbo X and driving it to Trollhattan. Upon arriving there he’ll go to the Saab Museum and see all of Saab’s concept cars, which are being shown together in the one place for the first time.

That sounds like a pretty good day to me. It’s good to be Kenneth, eh?

We haven’t seen nor heard much of the Saab Performance Team in recent times.

There’s an album on Flickr showing them a few days ago in Beijing and using 9-5s as well as 9-3s.

I hope you’re having a great weekend. My Carlton Football Club had a resounding win last night, so I’m all smiles.

I’m heading out this weekend to take some final photos of the WRX. I plan on handing it back this week as well as writing up a series of entries on what has been an interesting Rexperience.

We had former Saab design chief Bjorn Envall drop by in comments a few days ago.

This morning his younger brother Anders joined us. Have a look at what he does in his spare time!!

That Impala SS was a stroke of pure marketing genuis. Put the Corvette engine in the Impala (the last big rear-wheel-drive GM car) and create a blackout paint scheme.

I rented a 2008 Impala SS about a month ago and I wasn’t that impressed.

      I love his car!

      Thanks eggsngrits!
I love it too, I guess mostly because it’s so big and still powerful and reminds me “better years” =)

Yes, it was a good idea to make it and it still sold very good when they killed the whole B-body platform in December 13 1996.

It was even the Caprice they put the Corvette engine in and called it SS in 1994-96.
They already had this concept running in all the Police Caprices - the 9C1.

      black & tan -
      works for beer
      works for exterior/interior combinations
      why not for body/roof?
      looks great!

The sand roof really looks great on the black body, I (my father in fact) has the same (limited “black ice” edition), but the sand color is quickly covered of brown spots : oil from the opening & closing mecanism…
No doubt that this system has been designed to use black (or at least dark) cloth… but the real problem is that these spots can’t be cleaned, as this greasy texture soaked the cloth

I already wrote several times to SAAB France, to explain this major problem (you don’t buy a special edition with sand roof to get a “mud-like” roof after 4 months !)… but I still got no answer from them… very sad :/

i love the black & tan. i recently swapped a 3yo tan top from a parts car onto my 900 that had the 20yo original black top. really looks refreshed.

Move with the times (or your mind), I say. Looks great especially on the black car as it defines the car as a convertible.

I am with Thomas on this one, I do like the look of the tan roof but, I have never seen one that aged well. I have been told that it is difficult to keep them clean and they stain very easy, as Thomas confirms. I have a nocturn blue with a black top vert. Anyone with a soft top should know how to clean and treat it. When a soft top is well cared for, it classes up the overall look of the car.

I don’t like it very much. Maybe it would be better if there was a higher-resolution picture, but..

      Well, anyway, here’s a white 9-3 with the sand-roof:

(This one I really like! I think it looks better on a white car, than on a black one maybe)
