Saab 9-4x and 9-X in motion!

Thanks Tompa!

Auto Motor and Sport went to Trollhattan recently and hung out with the Saab people as they drove, yes, drove the cars around the hydro power station there for the cameras.

I’m not sure what they’re talking about, but it’s worth being baffled by the words just to see the imagery.

Click through to AMS to watch the video! They look great :-)

They look even better in a natural setting, specially the 9-4x.

But the 9-X… :S ohhh man… I want it sooo much!!! What a stance!!

    • jwlanky said:

If Saab dont build the 9-X they might as well just throw the towel in now!

One interesting thing that is said in the interview regards the wireless connectivety inside the car. Look at the Saabguys smirk 2:35 into the video.. That smirk comes when he tells the reporter about what Saab has in store for connectivety, satnav etc. Something he says nobody has today but is going to come in future Saabs.

The 9-4x looks very nice indeed, so does the front of 9-x. Otherwise the 9-x looks slightly too conceptual to my taste. (it will lose too much character if they ever manage to bring it to production)

I hope they manage to adopt something of the 9-x front to the coming (if it ever will) 9-5, though.

Hi guys, my first post here (I read the blog from about 1 month). I’m a bit confused with this models, expecialy 9-x. So, my question is where will be 9-x in saab models line (which from I undestod from here will be 9-1, 9-3, 9-4x, 9-5, 9-7 probably)?

Damn that 9-X BHC looks soooo sweet on the road!! Time to start saving up :D

    • NineTwoX said:

Razvan - The 9-X “could” be the new 9-1.

    • 2-don said:

I believe that to be correct, except for the 9-7. That’s the dream lineup. I hope the 9-1 looks awfully close to the 9-X. I’d get that one now. That just may replace my 9-3, if it’s available in the states!

    • WooDz said:

Just seeing that 9-x in motion tells me I will buy a new 9-1. Please be rest assured this car is coming.

    • 2-don said:

Sign me up for a 9-1X (cross wheel drive). Is that still a possibility?

    • spazzz2002 said:

I can’t wait to start having some kids now to start filling up a 9-4x… in the mean time the 9-x would do just fine for me, myself and anyone I would let touch my car…lol….

    • Hansi said:

Did anyone else notice that the guy from SAAB said “when the 9-x will be put into production”, not “if”

    • Nigel Park said:

Wouldnt it be nice if they stretched the 9-X and made it into a new 9-5 Estate !!!

    • triple said:

I love them both. I just wish they’d hit the throttle goign around the corners. 5 mph cruising = good for cameras, bad for enthusiasts.

    • jeff k said:

mmmm please sell the 9-X BH in the states.

    • WooDz said:

      I’m sure you would thrash a multi-million $ concept around corners too…

    • Mats said:

Alright, so that’s what is was. They had the cars right outside my office window photographing them…I took a few shots with my cellphone. Can email them to you Swade if you want me to…

    • Jeff said:

Is it just me, or did the 9-X look like it was the same size as the 9-4x? That had to be an optical illusion.

Here is a fairly rude translation of the clip:

These new cool concept cars we have seen the last year, can vi expect this to be Saabs coming design language ?

You could say that it is. It is the reason we want to show them since we stand before a period of product relanuchments of Saab the forthcoming years.

      (Yes, re-launch!)

Closest is the Saab 9-4x being launched in the perhaps roughtest segment competition wise right now. What makes the 9-4x unique ?

I believe it’s mostly our heritage as a brand that is appealing. Our way to develop cars, “the Scandinavian” feeling, but mostly I believe that now when we are in a global debate about environment that we have a different approach and ideas about how we can travel in a successful way.

9-4x is a sister model to a Cadillac and will have a powerful V6 Diesel, will we see a hybrid ?

It’s to early to say specifically for that car. We are looking at different solutions that have durability as focus and there you have biopower as one step, hybrid could be the next step and hopefully there is something even better behind the horizon.

Which one do you like the best ?

I like the 9-X biohybrid of course.

What is your main focus with this product ?

The car is in a completely new segment for Saab, it is to find the best of Saabs design heritage but then also handling, joy of driving, the sporty feeling with the driver in focus.
Todays youth and the generation that will buy the car when it hits the market lives with their cellphones where you have navigation, all entertainment and all communication you can think off and why not use that the best way possible in the car without having to connect with wires and such ? That is something we are looking at, how to solve that interface smarter then today and we think we have a great solution there.

Will you focus more on a active lifestyle ahead ?

Focus on a active lifestyle relates good with our target group that consider themselves to be very active. Active doesn’t have only to mean rock climbing, it can also mean a active citylife as in this case.

It works if you have a little extra ?

Yes, it works if you have your airbag deployed yes

What do you have to say to the ones who have been hungering for a new fresh model from Saab ?

To borrow a expression from another brand, it’s worth waiting for

    • triple said:

Thrash? no of course not. But c’mon surely they could goose it a little over 5 mph. I’m sure it’s not just any hack behind the wheel of the multi-million dollar concepts.

    • Mag-X said:

      I want a 9-X so badly!

WooDz, if the 20 year old EV1 can do burnouts, I don’t see why the 9-4X and the 9-X can’t at least drive normal speeds.

    • Alex said:

Wow, seeing the 9-4x out in the open made me appreciate it that much more.

I’d even go so far as to say that it looks NICER than the 9-x biohybrid. In terms of elegance and exotic looks it’s up there with the Range Rover. I expect that it will do very, very well and if this sort of eye-catching and sleek yet elegant design is what to expect from Saab in the future, then it will only mean good things for sales.

I can’t wait to see how true to the concepts the production versions of these cars will be.

    • Jeff said:

Alex - I agree, I think the 9-4x looks better than the 9-x. While I like the spoiler on the 9-x, I think the lines around that area make it look really weird.

      Still, I’d rather have a 9-x.

    • PerPedal said:

Ai ai ai! Anybody that knows this weeks lottery numbers??? I wish I could fill up my garage with these cars.

The 9-4x looked 1000 times better out in the real world, than indoor under bad ligthing.

And man, the 9-X, jiks, I want one NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not in

      SAAB please make it ASAP!!!!

    • Daniel B said:

Both awesome looking cars. especially the 9-X is stunning!!
I´m gonna buy a 9-4X anyway and if you make the 9-X Saab, I´ll buy that for my wife asap.
Love the clean surfaces on that car´! Keep going with that style Saab!
As far as the 9-4X goes I´m still a bit confused about the front end (grille/light arangements) It does not look as sleek and exclusive as the rest of the car. But aside from that minor detail I have to concur with the previous writer: absolutely a compeditor for the RR Sport!

      9-4X…

Actually I´m really sad that they had to make this car. Especially when I see it moving it makes me hate it. Really. I simply cannot see a purpose for such vehicle.

But of course, if Porsche had to crawl (Cayenne - a Joke) then maybe Saab should do it too. If that is what is needed for Saab to exist, then go ahead. It still doesn´t help me being sad.

I suppose that quite a lot of people who will buy 9-4x do not really need such a car. I mean, why 9-5 could not do the job?

When I saw one 9-3 review calling 9-3 Sport Combi a anti cross over - I had to move my ears to allow the smile on my face :)

Cross over (used to be SUV) is a car where all the bad features are collected in one. A car which is not really capable to go off road, and the handling is far from a decent saloon / wagon (combi). Consumption is really high and considering the size and weight, the interior room is ridiculous.

Actually there is no place where you could go with 9-4X your where C900 could not follow, and c900 will haul more stuff inside if needed. With less fuel. And it looks good too. Enough said?!

      Sorry for venting guys.

I just wish the 9-”whatever” compact combi with 1.6liter turbo would get the green light for production some day…
