Friends at Saab TurboX Media Day

Here’s a great pic of our pal Gunnar Heinrich and his photog sidekick Kevin Kusina ready to launch a Saab TurboX around the improvised track in North Andover, Massachusetts.

As Swade has mentioned previously, Gunnar’s treatment of the event is much more polished than mine. Kudos to him, fo’ sho’.

Here’s Steve Shannon giving an interview to a Spanish-language crew in the middle of our improvised test track while a bunch of amateurs like me drove by at speeds well above our capabilities. I know that we’ve been critical of Mr. Shannon’s low-profile existance at the helm of Saab USA, but he was certainly accessible at this event. As I said in a previous comment, I think that Steve’s a “gamer” — ready to work even though the odds are tough. We may not know what he’s working on, and we may not like what he’s working on, but I definitely get the vibe that he’s working.

Incas. Incas are everybody’s friend. Especially when they are this pristine.

Incas, mmmm, Incas.

I love Gunnars work and I´m a big fan.
But! I wich ha could get some facts straight in the article “Happiness Is Behind The Wheel of A Mint Saab 900″

In that article he wrote of the C900 turbo…
“Not nearly as safe as a Volvo 240, nor nearly as swift as a BMW 325i, the 900 Turbo still bested both in terms of comfort and character.”

This is Saabs own fault I guess to make the world believe that Volvo is the safest car in the world.. The 900 accually vas the better of the two swedes in real life accidents. The 240 beat the 900 in one game only.. Cabinspace. The Volvo had almost the same quality in seatcomfort, where the BMW came an absolut third of these cars. Saab realy has some work to do when it comes to peoples awareness.

But keep the good work up Gunnar, your journalism rocks!

After seeing this shot of the Turbo X, I would be inclined to change the side mirrors covers with the newer Aluminum brushed accessories to add this extra subtle touch. These will match beautifully with the front grill and the black body. Worth considering in my view.
