I’m not sure of the exact date this is happening, I was only told it was the end of May and I haven’t asked again since. But seeing it’s now around the end of May…..
I’d like to take this opportunity to wish Christer Nilsson, the PR guru from Saab Sweden, a very happy retirement. I’d also like to thank him for all the kindness and support he’s shown to this cranky Saab-loving blogger from the other side of the planet.
This photo is Christer pointing out that I wasn’t allowed to take my camera into the Saab factory during the tour he gave me in June last year. Christer personally accompanied me around pretty much the entire plant (minus the paint shop) in what was a huge day for me – one that I’ll not forget for a long, long time. And of course, I took my camera!
Christer has been working for Saab since 1972, gradually moving around the company until he became the PR guy. I’m not sure when that was, but his name’s been at the bottom of every Saab Sweden press release I’ve ever seen. He has a couple of sons who work for Saab as well.
My experience with Christer showed him to an incredibly dedicated guy. Helpful to a fault. I watched him working at the 2008 Saab 9-3 launch event and he was always around, seeing that everything was in order and that everyone had what they needed. And he can drive, too! The first time I saw the XWD Saab 9-3 SportCombis getting sideways on the gravel at that launch event – guess who was behind the wheel?
Saab is losing a dedicated and knowledgeable servant in Christer Nilsson. He’s a Saab nut, a dedicated professional, and a gentleman. His replacement will have some very big shoes to fill.
Enjoy your retirement, my friend.

He seems like a true Saab guy – the kind that made the brand an automotive sweetheart.
Good luck and happy retirement!
He must have some skills to get the XWD sideways on the gravel!
Best of luck to Christer and a happy retirement!
Now he’ll have more time to leave comments on this blog though, right?
He could be the ultimate Djup Strupe if he were so inclined……but I know he won’t.
Hopefully he can be the source of another Djup Strupe…
This guy was a huge help to me as well.
A real Saab spirit man.
I salute you Christer sir.
