Another Turbo X - in Philly

If you mention Philadelphia and stand something in front of a grand old building and I immediately hear Rocky music, even if it’s not the right building. Maybe this is the vehicle that’ll lead them to an improbable place atop the European heap - it’s the fighter vs the thoroughbred and all that stuff :-)

Ken B has just added himself to the list of Turbo X owners and whilst he hasn’t had a chance to take it for a proper drive yet (Mother’s Day will do that to you) he was kind enough to snap a few photos and send them in:

These are all shot in the main part of Fairmount Park, the city park in Philadelphia (2,300 contiguous acres in this part; 8,800 acres for the entire park). Memorial Hall was constructed for the 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia. The Japanese Tea House is behind the hall and in the Horticultural Gardens of the park. The skyline picture is shot from Belmont Plateau, a high point in the park and the site of a mid-1700’s building now housing the Underground Railroad Museum at Belmont Mansion.

Congratulations, Ken!! Enjoy it, and keep on punching!

Before moving to my current house, I used to live two blocks from the Philadelphia Museum of Art. (I think that I never would have bought a Turbo X if I still lived there — with no off-street parking I’d have been a wreck fretting about the safety of the car.)

While you can’t drive up those “Rocky” stairs, you can arrive at the top of them by simply driving around from the rear of the museum. Given how busy the front of the museum is on a Sunday, I didn’t go there today. However, during the week I’ll get a few shots from there, Swade.

As long as you’re standing next to it, arms raised in the Rocky pose, Ken :-)

No one born in Philadelphia will ever do that.

We save that imagery for the tourists! ;-)

I got a chance to drive one Friday in Canfield Oh. Purchased by the owners son. The drive was too short and the dealer was with me. They also received a least one Aero xwd at the same time.

Ken, please tell us you’ve gotten that thing on Kelly Drive by now!

Chopper Dave, I did tonight on the way home — in busy traffic, with rain and high winds. Tuesday looks like it will be the first day since my purchase that I can actually get in a good ride with dry roads and a blue sky. My mid-day schedule is wide open and I plan to do a River Drives loop just before 1pm. Are you in Center City or University City? Wanna go for a ride?

Ah, that’s too bad … enjoy it when you can.

I used to live in Center City, and would toss my ‘01 GTI around on Kelly on my way to my job in King of Prussia. Now I’m in Boston and walk to work, while my poor 9-3 Arc just sits there …

      Thanks for the offer!
