The TS 2009 project

The main projects here for 2008 have been 1) to get the website back on its feet after last year’s software debacle, and 2) get the Viggen back on its wheels. Project 1 is 90% complete and project 2 is finally commencing.

A quick look around the web has provided me a potential project for 2009. One that I’ve wanted to for a long time.

Saab Sonett

The one on the right is typical of the sort of thing I’d be interested in, in around 18 months from now. It’s for sale for US$1,500 in the Saabnet classifieds at the moment, though I’d probably look for one in California if possible.

I’ve always wanted a Sonett and I reckon 2009 could be the year if things go well.

I guess the big question could be whether to look for a Sonett II or a Sonett III. The Sonett III’s are much easier to come by and a fair bit cheaper than the Sonett II’s.

Take this one, for example (click to enlarge). It’s for sale in Sweden, is a 1968 model – which I think is when the photo was taken – and has only done 5,500 miles around 55,000 kilometers. That’s still pretty low mileage so it’s a little pricier than most.

What would you expect to pay?

And don’t spill the beans if you’ve seen the ad, please. Let’s allow for a few guesses.

Thanks Mats.

  1. That car has done something between 55 000 – 60 000 km, thats about 34 000 – 37 000 miles.

Remember that we swedes uses mil which is not miles, 1 mil is 10 km.

I have seen the price, insane…

  2. I’d guess about 150 000NOK, which is 175 000 SEK.

OT:I just came back from Sweden, driven a 2008 MB C200K Avantgarde, quite a nice car to be honest, but still I’d rather be behind the wheel of a 9-3 Aero instead.

I´ve seen it to now.. What is so insane about that? There are very few of them in any sort of drivable condition.. So I do believe he will get that amount for it.. Even though it´s a V4. And it´s better to have a higher price to get the enthusiasts than to just through them away to some su-ker that makes a roadracer from it. It´s a classic and should be treated like one.

  4. Regardless of which one you get, you should swap the engine for an old rally-type V4, rather than the stock one. 150-horse Sonett :D

    If you can find a turbo version, there’s 200 horses and a 5 second 0 – 60, fun!

  5. My kids live in the district where the Sonett is being sold.. Maybe I should go and have a look at it together with my kids?
