Satisfaction

I haven’t added them all up for a while now, but I think I’ve purchased around a dozen or so cars in my lifetime. Whilst the 99 Turbo still occupies the biggest place in my heart, I’d have to say that the Viggen purchase was the most satisfying.

For me it represented something like an arrival. I’d managed to get myself into a position to buy what was pretty much my absolute dream car. I loved everything that the Viggen had – the color, the drive, the potential, and especially the interior, which felt like it was designed particularly with me in mind. It’s perfect. I absolutely adore the Viggen interior. To be able to finally get a car that I admired so much was pretty satisfying.

I hope that’s the way Golfhunter is feeling right now, because he’s recently made one of the most commendable Saab acquisitions of the year.

Saab 96 Convertible

When I featured this Saab 96 cabriolet a few days ago I thought that Golfhunter knew the person who had bought the car. I didn’t realise that HE was the person who had bought the car!

I loved the first pictures so much that I wrote a brief article at Spirit of Saab and whilst I occasionally go back and look at my own work here and permit myself a smile, I’ve back to look at those pictures on SOS again, and again, and again. It’s that beautiful a conversion.

This could well be the most elegant Saab I’ve ever seen.

Golfhunter’s sent me a couple more photos, including one that shows the fantastic job they’ve done with the canopy, adopting the MG style of covering rather than a hooded roof style that would probably look a little awkward on this car.

For me, the Viggen was a perfect purchase because I was so into turbo performance and great interiors. For Golfhunter, who’s primarily into vintage Saabs, I’m sure this is pretty much the perfect purchase as well. I can just see him touring the French countryside now, enjoying the open air with a huge smile on his face.

Congratulations, Golfhunter, on what I’m sure will prove to be a very, very satisfying purchase for you.

There is, unfortunately, a sad part to this tale as well. Such a beautiful car does come at a cost and for Golfhunter, the purchase has meant that he’s having to sell his beloved Saab 95.

I’m quite certain that he’ll make sure it goes to a good home, though. Maybe one nearby would be best :-)
