Saab Oz doing a Mini-Me Black Turbo

Djup Strupe’s been busy….

I’m not sure if this is going to be available in other markets, but Aussie Saab clients can expect to see a base-level model crafted to celebrate the coming of XWD, but for those who don’t have the money need for an XWD vehicle.

They’re calling the vehicle The Black Turbo.

It’s based on a 2.0t BioPower Linear Sport Sedan, will be Black in color (as opposed to Jet Black metallic) with either a black or parchment interior, and will offer around $6,000 worth of stuff for just $2,000. There’s going to be a limit of just 50 of these vehicles here in Australia and you can expect to see them marketed in May and June.

the extra features include:

    Rear spoiler
    Front spoiler
    Front fog lamps
    18-inch wheels (ALU65)
    Metallic finish mirrors
Sentronic paddle shifters on steering wheel
    Sports chassis
    Unique interior mats
    unique sill badging

The price for this will be A$48,900 and that’s a pretty decent value when you consider the base model Linear (auto) without all that stuff is just $2,000 less.

As mentioned, Aussie Saabers can expect to see this advertised in the next month or so.

  1. the “mini-me” setup is a good idea/option. basking in the glow of the turbo-x also helps celebrate the model.

the color theme (black on black) of my ’08 makes me feel that i’ve got at least a “baby” version of the turbo-x. and if the wheels become available, i’ll probably throw on a set. (especially in motion, they look outstanding.)

  2. Wow what a great idea, offer a almost identical “looking” car to the turbo X, take the focus off your flagship 93, dilute the turbo X, alienate the owners of the soon to be delivered turbo X.

    Smart move Saab Aust…

    1. no offense, but as a comparison, i don’t think my ’94, 900s dilutes the viggen edition;

    2. i think turbo-x buyers are in it for the performance and xwd, which my ’08 will never have; and

    3. besides, in ’09, buyers (anywhere, not just in australia) can get almost the exact same turbo-x spec in the 9-3, and with a “wider” colour palate.

the only way for the turbo-x to be unto itself would be for gm/saab to develop an all new model (whilst trying to “catch-up” on developing the next-gen on current models). definitely prohibitive, at the moment.

    peace.

    1. No offense but your 94, 900s looks noting like a Viggen, this imho will be very similar looking car and will play into the turbo x marketing spiel of witch at the time should be reserved for the turbo x and the turbo x only

    2. agree totally, know someone that has ordered one and is a performance nut.

    3. yes i understand that in 09 buyers every were will be able to get exact spec car, but this is MY08 Swade is talking about and with in a month or so of potential release date of the turbo x.

  5. Ahh, Richo is still in the happy place. Great idea, any showroom traffic that can’t afford the Turbo X have got a good looking alternative that does NOT devalue the flagship. Three things missing from the package though: B, S and R. Easily fixed.

  6. Turbin, where are you based in ??? I take it you are in OZ ??? Let us know please.
