Refreshingly brief report from Kiruna

It’s easy to get bogged down in numbers and statistics when it comes to cars. Expert reviewers like to do it constantly. It’s so tempting to compare one vehicle with another purely ‘on paper’ and we’re all suckered into it from time to time.

How about a review that only has five numbers mentioned in its entire 500 or so words? And when four of those five numbers are ‘360′ (as in how many 360s did you do with the traction control off) and ‘80′ (as in % of cars sold in Sweden that are BioPower) and finally ‘30′ and ‘50′ (as in miles per hour) - it only leaves one number for all the statistical stuff that reviewers carry on about.

The premise of this review is quite simple - does XWD work?

Perhaps this guy isn’t normally a car reviewer and doesn’t know that he’s supposed to give us nought-to-sixty, newtonmeters, mpg and milliseconds per ECU calculation. If so, then more power to him.

What you get is an interesting read from what appears to be a new set of eyes when it comes to Saab and their new XWD system. It’s a great account of the Ice Experience and a refreshingly simple look at XWD.

Does it work? The short answer is a resounding “yes” but read it for yourself: Swede Chariot

In three attempts with the EPS and XWD system switched on I twice made it to the end of the course. Without, I made it to two cones before spinning out of control.

i didn’t know “xwd” can be switched on or off. (hmm, even cooler.)
