Saab small market sales data
Whilst major markets get recorded individually, I’ll use this post to record small market sales data for February 2008.
If you’ve got sales data for your country, then please either email me or enter it in comments and I’ll update this main page.

Australia
Saab Australia had a better month after a slow start to the year.
They managed 134 units in February, which is 18.6% more than Feb 07.
Still down for the year, however, with 230 sales recorded so far in 2008 and 272 for the same two month period last year.

Germany
Good news (sort of) for the German market!
Saab sold 308 vehicles in Germany, which was a rise of 42% from February 2007. Overall, Saab is up 16% for the year so far in Germany, but many other carmakers are also up by double-digits this year (except Volvo, who are down)

CANADA
Pricing is an issue in Canada. The Loonie has virtually reached parity with the US dollar and yet the price of Saabs there is considerably more. I’ve emailed Saab Canada about this and will post a response when the discussion has reached its conclusion. My initial impression is that they seem quite satisfied that they have the pricing set according to the market and to the competition.
In the meantime, Saab Canada recorded 59 sales in February 2008. That’s 47% down on the 103 sales recorded in the same month last year.
Kinda speaks for itself, really…..

As mentioned, let me know the Saab sales in your market and I’ll update the article.

2 cars per day in a “western” country with 30 million people? Wow…
not much better over here in Germany… have a look at his latest test between BMW 320d Touring / Mecedes 220 CDi Tourer / Skoda Octavia Wagon 2.0 TDi and the 9-3 SC 1.9 TTid in Aerotrim: http://www1.autozeitung.de/online/render.php?render=113767
falls behind in quality, seats, [??], space, safety [???], ergonomy, handling, consumption and price … we do not need to wonder WHY Saab is not purchased by germans…
last place, sadly
Hi Swade,
The German market looks as follows:
308 Saabs sold in February (593 in 2008), which is up by 42% from Feb. 2007 and 16.3% for the Jan-Feb period. The whole market was up by 25% and 17.3%, respectively.
Audi and BMW are up by around 25%, Mercedes by 32%, and Volvo down by 19% in February.
Amazing, ctm, ain’t it?
Keep prices just like that and I would not be shocked to see them sell a car a day in Canada, not only an afluent Western country of 33 million people, but also one with a Nordic-like climate that should fit like a glove with Saab’s core values.
How many Canadian dealers share the huge profit that comes from this Saab buying mania sweeping across the country?
The numbers for the Dutch market are also available.
February:
9-3 228, down from 347 in 2007.
9-5 33, down from 65 in 2007.
Jan - Febr.:
9-3 575, down from 703 in 2007.
9-5 98, down from 133 in 2007.
Total marketshare also down from 0,76% in jan/Feb 2007 to 0,59% in 2008.
And to rub some salt: BLS from 20 to 24 (but from 18 down to 6 in February alone).
Here’s the French data from leblogauto.com/2008/03/ventes-fevrier-en-france-par-marques.html
Saab 292
The article doesn’t list the percent change for Saab sales.
Canadian pricing is ridiculous. It was to the point where it was around $10,000 cheaper to buy in the U.S. and drive it across the border. Taxes are high for importing but significantly less than the price difference.
Now, manufacturers have wised-up and dealers will not sell to Canadian residents.
On the news juts last night, third party brokers are in huge demand and must be making nice coin because people are still buying ….
