UPDATED!!

Tiago Do Vale has treated us to three alternative colors. See below….

——

A few people have wondered what the Saab 9-X BioHybrid concept would look like an a color other than snow silver.

In case you missed it earlier, one commenter named Triple managed to do a quick color change for everyone’s perusal, and here it is. Click to enlarge.

I’m in to darker colors, so personally I find this pretty encouraging. Different colors can really change the character of a car sometimes. This is still looking as great as the original in my eyes. Kudos to you, Triple!

If you’ve got some photoshop skills and want to try some different colors, here’s a source image to play with. Feel free to email your results and I’ll add them in to this post.

OK, as mentioned up top, Tiago has applied the paint brush and come up with the following.

It’s amazing how much a few different colors can change the look. I love what the black does for the window line on the side of the car, but it’d need some brightwork on the front IMHO.

Great job, Tiago!!

  1. This color looks great. How ’bout throw some lynx yellow on it with splashes of black….I’m betting that would cause some big :)

  2. +1 on the Viggen blue, I’d also like to see a nice metallic orange as well

They had better build this car for MY2010

  3. + 1 more on blue.

But they won’t have this out for MY2010, so you may as well vent about it now. As far as we know, it hasn’t even been signed off for production yet.

  4. A 2012 release for the 9-1 won’t be the end of the world (close though it may be). It just means that the car will have to be that much better than the competition. Rather than being a competitor to the C30, 1-series, or A3 it will have to go beyond those cars and be able to compete with the next-generation iterations of those cars.

An Astra-based job with a turbo ecotec or two would have been fine if the 9-1 was thrown together for a 2009 or 2010 release, but the pushed back date means that this car will have to be truly groundbreaking compared to anything anyone else has put together.

  5. Agreed. That was my worry when I saw this. It looks great for now, but for the production version, the designers are going to have to imagine what’s out there, and then try and top it.

  6. If they get it to look close to this, it should be eye-catching enough to go up against it’s future competition. The real money will have to be spent on powertrains and interiors. Plug-in hybrid capability and a full Audi-level interior will be a must.

  7. Alex: Do you mean MY2012 or 2012 which could even mean MY2013. The Delta II platform will be 2 or 3 years old by then. Does Saab always have to get everything 2nd hand?

That timeframe will encompass a new 9-3 also. If it uses modified Delta II, things will be very complicated for Saab. Saab has to decide what it wants to compete with a 9-1. I only see a C30 competitor at the moment. A five door is a must to compete with Audi and BMW. A coupe/ convertible with folding metal roof would be good as well if Saab really wants to compete with the BMW 1 series.

  8. Why does every car have to look aggresive and fierce these days? It is all getting very boring with even sensible people carriers going all slitty eyed. Just demonstrates a lack of imagination, and I think not very SAAB. I think the critical element of the 9-1x is the windscreen. This could be difficult to achieve using a shared platform, given that the bulkhead/scuttle is usually one of the hard points. Imagine how this would look with a more conventional flat windscreen?

  9. The lively, more joyful colours like Lynx Yellow and the fainted red make the 9X BHC look a lot more appealling. Saab should have released it in those colours in order to make it more attractive for the environmental concerned buyers. A treehuging bio-ethanol powered car that creates a feeling of winter and cold? Who wants to buy that? I like white colours for cars, especially on ,god forbid me for saying, on the BMW 1 series (saab’s snow white is too white, cream white is better), but to be hounest I’m getting a little bored with saab’s ‘icetheme’. It’s cool on the rearlights and everything but don’t pushed it so every saab concept looks the same!
Maybe it’s time to bring back the cool sonett like colours on saab’s newest little one!

  10. The first red one (i.e., the first one you see as you scroll down in this post) looks excellent.

The forest green one I like as well.

  11. Ok…so where do I send my deposit on the Lynx Yellow? The black trim fits perfect. I grew up an Iowa Hawkeye and it would be a perfect fit to my team colors.

  12. Man, I want one of those next to my upcoming TTiD Vector SC. BTW, I´m so god damn envious to peeps who can do neat things like that with Photoshop ;)
