Is this possible?

I received this images via email, with absolutely no accompanying text.

I’m not sure if this is for real, or if it’s some special company thing awaiting some sponsorship decals. I like Lynx Yellow. I like it a lot on the convertible

Lynx Yellow is only available in the convertible, right?

  1. I guess this is just a black one covered with a sticker thing (looking at the 1.9TiD sign at the back, the doorhandles and the head lamp washers). Something similar to what taxis often use in Germany (where they had to be yellowish/beige in the past).

    Rgds,
    Martin

  2. it looks like a retro fit job, but more to the point its prob yellow vinyl stickers, look closely the car was originally a darker colour, example look around the front fog lamp, door handles and the SPA sensors.

it was prob done for some company

  3. So right on the convertible, so wrong on the wagon (and probably on the saloon).

Unless the AA have ordered some up. Looks like some kind of emergency vehicle.

  4. I think you could be right CAM, another dead give away is the shoddy job around the rear decals.

Perhaps it is a test to see how the colour would look on a Sportcombi? I for one think it looks fantastic and striking. Sure the colour may not be everyones cup to tea, but the customer should at least have the choice (unless it is the Turbo X of course!).

  5. I’m convincef its a custom job. The amount of black left under the yellow shows its definitely not a factory doing. I mean look behind the badges! Definitely somebody’s idea, whether to save money or strictly custom…but not factory.

  6. Seeing the pics I remembered the “Mavic” support team Saab (Blog entry of February 22nd, 2008). Contrary to the present car, the “Mavic Saab” seems to be painted/transformed in a professionnal way.

  7. As there are no side-strips (which onfortunatly remain on the MY08 convertible) it must be either a custom-made convertible with no side strips and new doorhandles, or a sedan/combi in a new colour.

  8. I would buy this SportCombi in this color!!! Gives it a real racer feeling. SAAB, please make this a special order option for U.S. buyers!

    Thanks

  9. I too immediately thought of the Mavic support vehicle you had posted a couple weeks back.

And, I knew it wasn’t a convertible in the first photo as it had no bump-strips in the doors.

While I think the yellow looks better on the convertible, I’d consider a yellow combi too. And I’d put 17″ or larger wheels on it. We all know, after all, that thy wheels maketh thee car, right Swade?

  10. If its for Mavic maybe we should say thats one Dope Wagon. I guess the color works for some, never going to lose it in a parking lot. I’d be happy to have the engine in north america.

  11. I don’t think it looks like the exact right lynx yellow either. Doesn’t it seem a bit brighter? Or is it just the light or cameras fault?

  12. Saab pretty much needs anything it can get right now to attract buyers to the brand. Right now it doesn’t get much more “meh” than their interior and exterior color selection.

Let’s see some bright, inviting interiors with Ferrari tan or BMW red or Viggen blue leather, Saab’s are supposed to be different, not drab. It would be nice for GM to make a bit of an effort to make Saab stick out from the bunch, and new interior and exterior colors are a great cheap way to go about doing that.

Let’s also see some colors other than the same old half-dozen drab “upscale” looking blues and grays that every other company offers on cars in this class. Offer lynx yellow as an option across the range, bring back the Viggen blue, offer a metallic orange/bronze-ish color, and for god’s sake offer Aero-X white as a color option across the range. Saabs are supposed to stand for green, responsible performance, right? What better of a way is there to show that than offering the lime green color from the 9-3ss convertible across the range. Saab has always been known for unusual looking cars and it needs a selection of unusual, eye-catching colors to lure buyers to the lots.

Right now the color selection, especially the interiors is just the absolute pits.

  13. I completely agree with Alex. Give SAAB some beautiful extreme colours, which makes the brand special. I would buy one !!

  14. Meh. The yellow is fine with me. Unique color is one of the elements that sold specific autos in the past… think the “cyber green” of the current VW Beetle, the contrasting roof on the Mini, the deep maroon of the 1990′s Impala SS.

You have to use it all to market the car. If yellow works, go with it.

  15. Wow, now that I read the other comments, I should have just said, “I agree with Alex”!!

We even had the same “Meh” comment — something that I rarely say!

Time to go back to work ….

  16. Alex is exactly right about buyers needing more choices from Saab. I think it is absurd to have such limited interior/exterior/engine offerings in the U.S. One could say that engine offering are too expensive to warrant examination, but in other options departments, Saab really lags behind the competition. Have you built a Volvo lately on their U.S. site? You can chose from so many more packages and stand-alone options. BMW, Audi, and Benz have even more personalized offerings on their sites. Saab in comparison looks like a typical Americanized car company that offers 2-3 packages and 2-3 options. Don’t even mention the truly uninspiring lack of colors for the interior and exterior. Light tan or black?…give me a break. The competition has all manner of leather/fabric offerings in a rainbow of colors. I’m appalled how far behind Saab is in this department.

Our world is getting to be more and more centered around personalization from the way we organize our music to the way we order just what we want from an online store. Saab needs to offer this type of personalization for it’s entire line up. We’ll even pay more for special orders just watch us!

    To Saab:
I’d like a 2009 Saab 9-3 Aero SportCombi TTDI (not available in the U.S.), In Lynx Yellow, your sleek Black/Shark leather interior (available elsewhere but not in the U.S.), Aztec wheels (not available in the U.S.) Power folding mirrors (available elsewhere but not in the U.S.) and Bluetooth (not available in the U.S.) I’ll pay a premium for this custom build and won’t think twice about it. My individuality is well worth the price.

  17. I’am completely on the side of Alex and Joe Meek. Let just hope some board chief executive or whatsoever of SAAB reads this blog and just do something about that limited colour and trim in MY09

  19. I’ll take a 9-3 Aero XWD combi in a metallic orange/bronze or polar white with a chocolate brown interior like what Volvo offers inthe XC70.

I’d also take a 9-3ss 2.0T Biopower in lime green with black Aero seats.

What really irks me is how cheap it would be for GM to offer mini or C30-style personalization on Saabs. That’s exactly the sort of thing Saab needs to attract younger buyers and regain their mantle of being the BMW for independent thinkers.

  20. Just look at the limited (and all boring) color options that are available for the 2008 9-3 and you’ll realize why they’re selling so poorly. The interiors look positively drab and the exterior colors would look right at home on a Toyota.

And that’s completely ignoring the fact that the dealers around here only have 2.0T’s on the lot. Right now the 2.0T is like a Jetta with a cheaper interior and a more boring color selection, but for ~5-10k more. The Aero’s at least offer the gorgeous Aero body kit and some real performance. The current 2.0T’s that I’ve seen give me no real reason why I would purchase one over a Jetta GLI or TSX, heaven forbid a G35 or 328i, and don’t doubt that prospective customers are feeling the exact same way when they walk off the lot.

  21. I would LOVE this color on sedan or the combi. I have always loved yellow vehicles from trucks to motorcycles to cars. The main thing is make it a nice and bright yellow. How about a YellowX for Gen-X and Y here in the states.

Alex…you saying that about orange reminds me of my parents orange 1976 99. Now that was a unique color. :)

  22. Alex, a nice arctic white with chocolate brown leather would be nicer as the polar white looks ‘dirty’ to me.

Anyone know if the 09s are coming with arctic white as an option on the sedan as I think that would be the only colour to get me out of one with a snow silver paintjob.

  23. anything is better than pepper green i loved the yellow viggens just #@!$ colors lately they need to step it up a bit the 9-5 is on the way to the toilet no one like the 97x and lets not forget the 92x they need to offer xwd in all models soon and come up with some decent incentives and to me the 95 would need a v8 to survive in the us market
