WRX on it’s way…..

Look what I just got in my inbox:

Steven,

I’m pleased to advise that the Impreza WRX is scheduled to arrive in Tassie today and that **** **** of Performance Subaru in Hobart will be preparing the car for your use over the next month.

I’ve just tried calling **** and he’s out at the moment, but needless to say I’m quite excited.

It’ll be really interesting to give this car a run over the next month. You’ll be getting plenty of pictures, thoughts and comparisons.

March is my birthday month. Looks like it’s starting out in a very interesting manner :-)

      As long as you don’t rename the site otasubaru.net, it’s OK… :)

Friggin Hell Swade, a month now! I should have whinged to them myself instead of whinging to you. Ah well, my daily driver 9000 Anni has heaps more style than any Subie.

      Rogan,

      Comes in hatch only here.

Are they giving you the auto or the 5spd?

As Turbin mentioned, the Imprezas are all hatches here in Australia since the recent model update. They’re also all manuals in the WRX model. Output is quite similar to the Viggen, but the chassis and AWD should make for a marked difference.

Actually, just the fact that I can drive it will make a marked difference to my Viggen at the moment :-)

looks like subaru re-worked it pretty nicely.

when i saw one (an sti–at the dealer’s lot), i cursed saab for not having a comparable cool hatch available. hopefully, the 9-1 can fill the void.

i’m sure you’ll have lots of fun in it. congrats!

Well what can I say, a new car to drive for a month, the neibours will think you have struck it lucky - mine did, but I did tell them the truth, after a few days. :-)

Swade you will enjoy this ride. I have driven the new WRX, it is not as hard edged as the original, but it is still a fun car.

Wouldn’t be too hard for the 9-1 to look prettier than the Sube. Road testers here have already critized it’s mundane looks. Imagine what a 9-2x version of this car would’ve looked like? Might actually have been an improvement!

Last spring I was able to rent an ‘07 Impreza Special Edition hatch while on vacation on Vancouver Island. If anyone knows the road from Parksville to Tofino, they know that it is a driver’s road. Twisties, off-camber turns, straight runs, narrow corners and ups and downs through magnificent scenery. Swade, if you can find something along those lines in beautiful Tasmania I think you will find it to be quite a performer. Stuck like glue in the corners with minimal body roll. But I did miss the turbo surge from my Saab. :-)

Have a blast Swade….but don’t be tempted to the dark side. ;-)
