Unofficial Saab GB ambassador gets TTiD, for a while

Trollhattan Saab’s Unofficial Saab GB ambassador, Robin M, has recently taken delivery of a 2008 Saab 9-3 TTiD Aero for a few months. He gets to try the car out and basically spread the word around about the new TTiD setup.

Robin’s first words to me about it were:

I’ve got it and boy it shifts

But here’s the fuller story:

I am one of 5 “Saab Advocates” chosen to get as many test drives as I can. We have each been given a Saab 9-3 Aero TTiD. We chose the black saloon with manual gear box (actually Azzy chose the black I quite fancied the red one…)

I’ve now got the car for 8 weeks and like I’ve mentioned, it is my job to get as many test drives as possible (first one is in the bag), be it friends, family, neighbours, work mates, friends of friends etc etc. The advocate with the most test drives wins a holiday to Sweden in late summer.

For the test driver they not only get to drive the latest engined 9-3 from Saab but they also get put into a draw to win the same Saab Nordic Adventure and a discount voucher of £500 off a new Saab.

I am representing Saab on every test drive. The tester is encouraged to drive routes they normally would take so as to feel comfortable. I think Saab are looking at test driving in a different light. I’m going to encourage people, with no obligation whatsoever, to have a bit of a drive without the added pressure that they should be buying the car afterwards.

I’m looking forward to the challenge and am after that prize but I’m also going to enjoy the next eight weeks of being a 2 Saab family.

Do I feel lucky? Sure do.

Robin.

Here’s a look at the beautiful beast, and I’m sure we’ll hear all about it in due course.

Robin’s also the guy behind the Swedish Car Day that I wrote about last week. It’s coming up in April and I hope you Brits get behind it and have a good day out.

Unfortunately here in the States they give a $1000-off voucher to ANYONE, no need to win a drawing! :-(

Sounds like a sweet deal you got, but I have the feeling you’ll love the car so much that eight weeks will pass far too fast and you’ll find yourself buying one.

Lastly, wow. That is one ugly license plate. Do they make all of you in the U.K. drive around with banana yellow license plates? I guess it would probably look better on a Lynx Yellow ‘vert… ;-)

Yad think the GM/Saab MBA/marketing dipsticks would get one of these over here just for the auto shows…

Gripen I will confess I am enjoying it and am finding reasons to go out for a spin but I will always prefer the 9-5. I am told that this engine will be in the new 9-5, not that I will get one until it’s at least four years old.

Bring it to North America. Almost every European manufacturer will have a diesel car for sale here by 2009 - except Saab. Get with the programme before its too late!!! Id snap one of these baby’s up in an instant - as long as its snow silver!!

You know, I can understand why Saab isn’t bringing the TTiD to the U.S. market due to the emissions requirements.

However, doesn’t the TTiD as it now stands comply with Euro 5, and therefore likely would comply with Tier 2 Bin 8 in the U.S.? It’ll likely not comply with Tier 2 Bin 5 when the U.S. phases that in in 2010, but why doesn’t Saab import the TTiD until then? Just sell it for one model year. I mean, it can’t cost them that much to offer it here, can they?
