The wheels maketh the car, again
I posted a story way back when we had a month of Saab mod-loving in May last year. It was called the wheels maketh the car. It had a good tip about acquiring new wheels, too, so if you haven’t seen it, check it out.
Anyway, I’ve just been looking at these Turbo X pictures from the Ice Experience once again and I’ve got to say….those wheels are absolutely stunning!!
They polarised a few people when the car was first shown, but seeing them captured in motion like this, well, they’re just magnificent. Yet another instance where the wheels really do make the car stand out that little bit more. Thank goodness Saabs have almost always shipped with really good wheels.
I wonder how these would look on a Viggen????

I’ve said it before, but here goes:
Huge wheels are the automotive bell bottoms of the 21st century.
Discuss…
That last shot, is awesome. If I wasn’t a college student with no money, I would be all over a Turbo X
Uhh, want? Do you have High-Res of those? If you do i have my new background image set. Holy crap gorgeous.
that car is hot enough to get me out of my VW.
Bernard, you are showing your age.
When I first saw those wheels I thought they looked weird but now I love them.
The pics are awesome…
Those wheels look awesome in a “real life” setting.
Wheels that are too big or too small for the car make it look as wrong as someone wearing wellies with Speedo’s or flip flops and a boilersuit.
I upgraded my 93SS aero 17″s to Saab 18″ 5-spoke star alloys a few months back, at the same time as dropping the car onto some Hirsch springs - bearing in mind that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, IMHO I have not seen a better looking pre ‘08 93SS on the road, or for that matter on the internetz.
I would say that though.
I took a few (bad) pictures in the work carpark last week as I was going to ask if anyone in the office wanted to buy it. The plan was to take some better pictures to post an official internetty advert for it - But I decided not to sell “Samson”, I just couldn’t bear to part with the car.
This seems like the perfect opportunity to open a Flikr account which I’ve been meaning to do for a long time….

rentokil - beautiful - perfect color and wheels…!
Don’t sell.
…unless of course you sell Samson to me…Your ‘rentokil’ link isn’t working..you are in the U.S?
Rentokil, nice combination!
Awesome car rentokil, I could take “Samson” off your hands if you wish.
Thanks for all the compliments!
Tim, I’m in Scotland. The Rentokil link is for our company’s latest product, it’s proving quite popular, so maybe there was too much traffic!
And no I’m definately not selling. After weeks of deliberating, I cancelled my Turbo X order - I figured I could keep my beloved car, buy a used flame red ‘vert to go alongside it. It will save me about £15K ($30K USD) and I’d have two cars (plus the wife’s Civic) to have fun in. It far outweighs having one TurboX for me.
If I decide to sell some other time though, I’ll let you all know first!
Completely agreed w/ the wheel statement, Swade!
If Saab really wanted to put a hurting on it’s
competition (BMW), they would immediately
put a mandatory recall on all Saabs w/
15″ & 16″ wheels and replace them (free of charge) with
a choice selection of new 17″ Saab wheels!
That would immediately result in a world of
bad-arse (and better handling) Saabs!
…anybody know how much it costs to ship/import a car from Scotland to Denver??
(rentokil might change his mind…)
IMHO- It’s not about the wheels: it’s the tires that make the car. No matter if you have 15″, 16″, 17″, 18″s, etc., without the proper tire compound, you won’t be able to put all the power down on the ground. Looking at a car with nice wheels, yeah, of course it’s going to be beautiful. But is it still really beautiful if you get smacked by another car with less attractive wheels. I don’t think so.
Yokohama Advan Sport’s. Great tyres. Best I’ve had yet.
