TeamD do some circle work in Saab 900

Captions anyone?

TeamD I spotted these guys on my Flickr feed, though I didn’t notice them because of their great tan or killer poses.

They’re from a bunch called TeamD, a group of mates who like to drive all around Canada doing various road rallies. There’s four cars in the team, and of course one of them is a Saab, shown below.

As you can see, they’re currently in the arctic north of the country, running around in an event called the Alcan Winter Rally. What better time to heard north to the Arctic Circle than in winter?! The Alcan Winter rally is a time/speed/distance event starting in Kirkland, Washnigton and taking them almost 5,000 miles in 10 days.

The Saab in the team is a 1985 Saab 900 Turbo driven by Dan Comden and Hans Adomeit.

Saab 900

As of the crossing of the Arctic Circle, the car has 261,350 miles on its original engine. Having that many miles and then tackling an event like this? That’s faith on their part and longevity on the car’s part.

TeamD have a website, with a blog covering their progress through the event. They’re currently rounding the northernmost part of the event, after which they’ll head back towards the finish in Jasper, Alberta.

Click to enlarge. This is one huge trek to do in a 23 year old car. Wow.

  1. Wow. Is that “free Saab” for million-milers still in force? They’d only need to do this drive 150 more times and they would qualify.

In ten days per drive, that’s 1500 days, only four years and one month of driving.

I think they can do it.

  2. I miss the arctic. It can be such a wonderful place to live. I miss the northern light. The easy going way of life. Yes, miss it.

  3. No wonder we are experiencing global warming with hotties like these taking off their cloths at the Arctic Circle. Good thing they had a Saab to get them there, and back home safey.

  4. Ha! Really, we were just trying to get some vitamin D production going, which is tough to do back in dreary Seattle. The more skin showing, the more D you get. Or so I’m told. :-)
