ctm has express posted the Swedish sales data for January 2008, and it runs as follows….
The Swedish market totalled 17,033 vehicles in January, which was a decrease of around 17% compared with last year.
1: Volvo V70 II
Jan: 1693 vehicles

Jan: 1135 vehicles, +44%

3: Volvo V50
Jan: 724 vehicles, -18.7%
Market share this year: 4.2% (4.3%)
4: Saab 9-5

5: VW Golf

Diesel cars comprised 26% of the total market, down from 31% Jan 07. This is due to some tax reform this year.
Environmentally friendly car sales totalled 6,106 vehicles or 36% of the total market. Up from 14.5% this time last year.
1: Volvo V70 Flexifuel
Jan: 1143 vehicles (not on the market last year)
2: Saab 9-3 BioPower
Jan: 900 vehicles (not on the market last year)
3: Saab 9-5
Jan: 620 vehicles (818 last year)
4: Volvo V50
Jan: 467 vehicles (305 last year)

The Ovlov V70 taking top spot is a first for the green market. The Saab 9-5 held top spot consistently until the 9-3 BioPower arrived. Now that the Ovlov flexfuel is around it’ll be interesting to see how Saab respond.
Maybe some sort of sensor is required to show whether the car is actually running on E85 in order to get the free parking etc in Stockholm. I’m sure with the weight of the V70 it’d get pretty shocking mileage on the jungle juice.

Didn’t noticed this at first. Last year, Saabs market share in Sweden was about 8%. This year it’s almost 11%.
Oh, and Swades favorite:
93: Cadillac BLS
Jan: 28 vehicles, -35%

I was going to email shortly about that one…..
Is the E85 model available in the BLS yet?

I looked at this page now, and can’t find any reference to FlexPower or E85:

In a press release from November, it just said that the BLS will get an E85 engine. So probably not available yet. But when it is, boy, are the sales figures gonna skyrocket or what!

I find it funny that I find ovloV XC70 vehicles all over sunny Southern California, but the V70 is the best-selling car in snowy Sweden. It makes one wonder if AWD is really necessary.
Regarding the BLS and flex-fuel, I believe what makes the Saab BioPower so great is the turbocharger (which the BLS doesn’t have, does it?), the direct-ignition, and the Trionic system. Does the BLS have these components so it can be made “BioPower”?

Gripen – The Swedes are smarted than us and know not to pay extra for it when they don’t need it.
…Well…then again, if they were really smarter than us, they’d all drive
Saabs :p
