Sunday Snippets

Saab History have dug up a great video on Sarsys Friction Testers.

Sarsys are using the Saab “Nine Point Five” as their friction tester vehicle and the video gives you a good overview of how the car’s set up and how the technology works.

You can view the video here, or check out the previous writing on Saab friction testers.

An general automotive forum discussing the future of Saab in a positive manner.

Who says you can’t herd cats?

Saab 9-7x Whilst Swedish Saabs are rated very high when it comes to safety, the same can’t said for the Saab 9-7x. It’s not a dangerous vehicle to crash in, but it’s just not rated as high as its Saab brethren.

Which is all the more reason why this woman should consider herself pretty lucky to walk away with just a cut hand. That’s the 9-7x there in the river….click to enlarge

Saab have received a pretty writeup in my local newspaper this weekend.

There was a piece on the future Saab models coming up, which I referred to online on Friday. Today it was in print….

Saab news

Flip over a few pages and they had a writeup on the Saab 9-5 as a used-car review. They do one of these every week, giving a run down on all the features, things to look out for, value for money, etc. The 9-5 was covered in quite a complimentary manner, which is good to see.

Note also the Convertible ad underneath.

Saab news

That’s not the only Saab writeup in the news at the moment.

There’s been a constant trickle of news reports covering the ACCC action against Saab here in Australia for it’s “green” advertising. Saab wanted to deal with this quietly but it seems the ACCC are determined to take this one to a court setting and make an example of them.

Here’s another article.

Thanks Swade, my most recent posting on Saab has been a little down lately. Saab is starting to run some new tv spots.
They show the 9-3 better and even though they still are using the same music, they are talking about power and SAFETY. and you don’t hear ready, steady go. So to me that’s refreshing.

In crash tests vehicles are compared and rated within their own weight class. The 9-7 would have been able to earn a higher safety rating if the vehicle had a Thoracic (Torso) side air bag in addition to the side curtian air bag, but GM cheaped out and omitted it. As this story goes the vehicle launched once it hit the guard rail. Then it hit the side of the bridge and fell 40 feet into the river. I would say the 9-7 held up pretty well under the circumstances. Real world results.

Why rail on the safety of the 9-7x? She walked away with a cut on her hand from a terrible crash into the river. It did a great job.

Who’s railing on it? I just stated that it’s not rated as highly for safety as the other Saabs currently for sale. It’s a researchable fact. That’s all.

I’m very pleased that she’s safe and well and that her ‘7′ kept her that way.

To Dan, yeah, it performed well in this accident, but an XC90 it ain’t and you’d be a fool to deny that given the trollblazer’s less than stellar crash ratings.

      Alex & Swade:
less than stellar? And what is the 9-5?? I mean, I love the 9-5 but the crash test scores arent up to par anymore being that it is such an old vehicle.

I would think the 9-7x and 9-5 are about the same as far as safety goes. Is the 9-7x the class leader in safety? a top safety pick by the iihs? no? WELL NEITHER IS THE 9-5!

for large cars, the S80, A6, and CTS are all top safety picks. All in the 9-5’s class. Not to say the 9-5 just isnt safe at all, but it isnt any better than the 9-7x me think.
