Sunday Snippets
The quietness of the last 24 hours here is due to a farewell dinner last night and an early flight this morning for our young bloke, who’s heading off to Canberra for university.
Work hard, Benj (yeah, right!) Seeya at Easter.

Robin M’s posted a bunch more pics of his Ambassadorial ride over at Flickr.
Darn those 9-3’s look good in black!

For those who might be interested, there’s a good, quick video review of the 2008 Saab 9-3 Aero at ExpoTV.
I think the reviewer has something to do with a site called High Mileage, but it’s all a bit vague.
Anyway, it’s a decent review over all, so check it out, if only to look at yet another 9-3 in black.

Have you forgotten your car somewhere?
Some in the UK has paid taxes on their Saab and then left it in the carpark of a pub. Just left it.
The Saab 900 S has been in the car park, which is to the rear of the hotel, off Blakelock Gardens, for more than a week…..
….”We are full to capacity at the moment and the car is taking up a valuable car parking space.“When I rang the police they said it isn’t their responsibility but they did check the car with the DVLA.
“It came back as having no registered owner and the car had been given a statutory off road notice.”
So if you had a big night on the tuprs a week or so ago and have been to embarassed to ask where your black Saab is, please give The Melbourne Hotel in Hartlepool a call.

The Saab 9-4x’s cross-country rival, the Volvo XC60, will be showing in Geneva and images have leaked out.
This is the production version, too, so there’s much interest in what’s coming.

And finally, the Saab Expressions catalog of products has added some Hirsch clothing and accessories.
Unlike the actual Hirsch vehicle modifications, I think US and Australian customers might even be able to get these, too!

that volvo looks pretty nice in the back
the interior is OK
but the front…. it looks aweful. if i had to pick between this thing and the 9-4x, the 9-4 would win HANDS DOWN. :]
gettem Saab!
It’s nice to see that’s a SWISS Army knife (manufactured by Victorinox) and not a cheap Chinese Army knife knockoff. Hirsch is a Swiss company, after all.
Too often promotional “Swiss” army knives in the U.S. are actually cheap Chinese knockoffs.
You can’t get it from the U.S. Saab Expressions catalog which makes sense since you can’t get Hirsch anything in the U.S. I could order it from the Europe Saab Expressions site, but the trans-continental shipping charges are outrageous. The knife costs USD40 from the Europe Saab Expressions catalog and you have to add another USD48.43 for shipping for a total of USD88.40 and does not even meet the site’s minimum order value. This is for a Victorinox Spartan knife which can be purchased on Amazon.com for USD16.34 customized with a couple of Hirsch logos. I’d rather have a locking-blade Swiss Army knife (Wenger Ranger or Victorinox One Hand Trekker or Nomad) with a Saab griffin logo on it…
I just noticed by accident also that the Saab Everywhere Bike is now available in Lynx Yellow and Arctic White now as well as matte black. They’re still selling it in only black in the U.S. and the price is still outrageous. The same bike from the same manufacturer (Biomega) in red and with a Puma logo on it costs about half the price of the Saab one.

OH MY GOD THEY COPIED THE SID!!
On the bright side, the atrocious looks of this XC60 compared to the 9-4x almost makes up for us having to live with the 9-7x while Volvo got the beautiful XC90. Almost.
Alex: maybe, but it’s going to cost them money to do that (whereas GM is saving money on the 2007 and later 9-3 by moving the SID to the instrument cluster) and if you get in an accident in an ovloV you might injure your knee on the column-mounted key! Volvo Safe, my butt!
Don’t worry, I’m sure the 9-4X will get a HUD as a safety feature.
Alex - Ditto on the SID!
9-3SS looks 1,000,000,000x better in blue. =P
Why do we argue about these ugly, contrived, “Personal near-luxury crossover Utilities?” Theses new vehicles (read 9-4X and XC60) are nothing but tall glorified wagons (estates, combis, kombis, et al) that are designed to ween big SUV drivers in America off of their current tanks and into the future-a WAGON! When is Saab going to realize that it could produce a word-class wagon that does so much more than its current 9-5 SportCombi? I just don’t think GM will ever get what Saab means: born and raised in Sweden, styled by efficiency and Scandinavian design - not in Germany on an Opel line. Made in SWEDEN. It’s like ABSOLUTE vs. Aristocrat vodka. I’ll be keeping a Trollhattan-built 9-5 for many years because of this.
You guys might want to look at the header image on Saab.com

Been there, done that

Debates about SUVs vs wagons aside (4wd wagons being my personal preference after years living in the snow) this car looks remarkably like the BMW X6 in profile. Not quite as coupe-like but its definitely no box. Well done to Volvo for continuing to expand their range and stay true to their design/heritage etc while still responding to market dynamics ( ie building 4WD & SUVs).
Hey crew,
I’m Adam, the guy who reviewed the 9-3 on ExpoTV. I found this link on Technorati and to be honest I was very surprised — thanks for the mention! I hope I did justice to the legions of Saab fans by dismissing “quirky” at the very start. Saabs are finally too competitive and relevant for people to stop at that word.
My dream Saab? A 1994 9000CDE notchback.
Thanks again, and keep watching!
