Saab small market sales data - January 2008
I have a feeling that it’s going to be real hard work recording sales for 2008. By that, I mean it’s not going to be a lot of fun. But records must be kept, so onwards and upwards!
Following are small market totals for Saab sales in January 2008. If you come across your country’s figures them email them to me and I’ll add them to this article on the site.

Netherlands
Sales data is in for the Dutch market and it’s more of the same. Saab sold 412 vehicles in January 2008 compared to 531 last year. This represents a drop in market share as well.
Margreet needs to get busy!
Thanks Albert!

Australia
The worldwide bad news for Saab sales continued in Australia in January.
Sales fell from 159 last year to just 96 in January 2008. It seems the 07 runout traffic is now slowing and combined with limited access to 08 models (I saw my first 08 on the road here in Hobart just 2 weeks ago), it seems we might be travelling a slow road for a little while.
It may be bad news for Saab’s future marketing budget, too, as Hummer outsold Saab by shifting 166 units during the month. It’s going to get crowded on those showroom floors….

Germany
It’s such a shame to have to include Germany in this small market sales data article, but nevertheless…..
Saab Germany managed 285 sales in January 2008. This is -2.7% compared to January 2007.
Thanks Saabaudi!

Finland
There were 226 Saabs sold in Finland last month, which is slightly more than in January 07 (217). Ok, it’s a 4,1% rise BUT the whole market was up 27,4%, so Saab’s is actually losing it’s positions to the others. Saab’s market share was 1.1% when at the same time last year it was 1.3%.
Saab 9-3 was 29th on the TOP30 of the most sold models with 195 sold units. That means Saab 9-5 sold only 21 units
. Poor 9-5.
Thanks Pika!

canada
Saab sold 105 units in Canada in January, compared with 126 in the same month last year.
That’s a fall of 16.7% on a small base.
Thanks cj!

Our market (Finland) is changing. Now that our car taxing is based on CO2 figures, Saab TTiD and other diesels should be highly competitive. But if there´s no advertising and nobody knows about these cars, it´s very hard to sell them.
And all the delays on TTiD delivery doesn´t help either. 9-3 SS/SC with TTiD and manual transmission is very efficient combination. I just have´t seen even one add telling about the performance and high mileage.
Thats Saab for you - regretfully! At least you get the chance of having the TTiD in Europe, MarkoA.
My dealer in Montreal (Canada) recently cleared his last 2007. I understood (perhaps incorrectly) that the 9-5 and (very nice pepper green) 9-3 in the showroom (with 3 Saturns, including an Astra, Aura, and a big SUV) were the only 2008s so far received. The SAAB manager seemed very much on track to weathering out this lean period. I wish our condo garage were more typical–6 SAABs out of just over 100 spaces; one does see SAABs regularly on the streets here. Must be the snow!
I confused about TTiD delays. To my knowledge there are none. The launch date for this engine was Jan ‘08 and I managed to deliver one December 15th (Maybe one of the 1st for UK). It takes an average of 8-10 weeks for a new order to be processed, released for production and finally assembled (which is 4 working days in itself ). Delivery to European Countries should be 1-2 weeks after that depending on distance from Belgium. Then the car will require a pre-delivery inspection which also requires scheduling (2-3) depending on dealership traffic/workload. Other countries out side of Europe need to add a further 4 weeks as shipping and customs play there part.
I didn’t want to go into so much depth but really unless a car is ordered ‘off the shelf’ so to speak then it will take anywhere from 12-20 weeks for delivery depending on where you live.
Pre-Delivery inspection 2-3days… just to clarify
@WooDz:
I don’t know the current lead times for ordering, production and delivery, but this can give you an indication: when I bought my current SAAB the total delivery time was less than 5 weeks (and yes it was a built to order car).
