Saab Pride - Aussie Style

It’s time, once again, for another entry in the Saab Pride of Ownership competition.

This competition is brought to you with the assistance of Elkparts, where (unfortunately) they don’t sell rain.

Today’s entry comes from Turbin, in Victoria, right here in Australia….

It is the last day of the year. It is also the hottest day of the year at 42degrees C. Australia has handed India their butts in the 5-day Boxing Day cricket test. So, all is well. I am home with my young family and we are shut-ins due to the sweltering heat. I have to do an end of year shopping run and the deadline for the Saab Pride of Ownership competition is looming.

Time for some photos of my dirty ‘Sons Af A Beach’ in my town of Kilcunda, Victoria, Australia. Where to start? With a photo at the end of the street of course.

The other subject of the photos is our 2006 9-3 Sportcombi. It is Parchment Silver with grey leather interior. The engine spec is top secret, don’t always believe the badge. It is filthy as it is a country car, we get dust and salt-spray in our front yard, and we have water restrictions where people murder others for watering their lawns (true story, so don’t even think about washing the cars).

Kilcunda is renowned as the place where a Gippsland holiday really begins. As you crest the hills just outside the town you see the first breathtaking views of Bass Strait that separates Tasmania from Australia.

Awesome views are also available from Kilcunda Ridge with a 360degree panorama over the coast as well as Westernport bay and Phillip Island.

Of course I love taking the long way home as this road runs straight south to the coastline.

Kilcunda is near the popular Phillip Island tourist spot famous for penguins and motor-racing. It was also the destination of Swade’s first memorable Saab ride. Cape Woolamai on the island can be seen from Kilcunda.

All journeys end at home where our backup car a 1998 9000CS Anniversary spends most of its time getting attacked by salty air. These are both hard- living cars and rack up about 55,000km a year between them.

Thanks to Swade our pride in our cars is perpetuated and supported,

Cheers,
