I know that dealers saw a "new" 9-5 ... and they saw the 9-4x ... I don't seem to remember my local guy saying he saw the 9-1, but even if they did, it seems unusual that we haven't seen any "spy photos" of the 9-5 or the 9-1 ... especially if the 9-5 will possibly beat either of the other 2 into production.

We saw spy photos of the 9-4x ... so how are they keeping the other 2 under such wraps? Especially when I keep hearing that the 9-5 is COMPLETELY new, and VERY distinctive.

It is certainly a heady time to be a Saabisti ... let's hope the excitement translates to showroom floors very soon.

ck1x: I see your point, and it's a good one, but I don't see Saab investing in all the tooling required for a 9-5 refresh for a single model year. We know from many sources that the next-gen 9-5 will be on dealer lots in late 2009 as a 2010 model. They still haven't shown the design yet, so unless they plan to show it at an auto show in 2009, I think this will be it.

Someone else pointed-out though that it'll be rough for Saab to sell an already poorly-selling 9-5 for another year while everyone knows what's coming the following year. The 2009 9-5 will look even more archaic when the 2010 concept hits Paris later this year. Who wouldn't hold-out for the 2010 model, unless they are basically giving-away the '09 models? Even with the special edition, I don't know how much that'll spur sales. I mean, how well did the 60th Anniversary Edition of the 9-5 help 9-5 sales? Not much, if at all. :-(

Hey guys I don't think this is the all new next-gen 9-5 they are talking about! Remember they were talking about one more refresh for the 9-5 before they put it to bed. A limited edition of sorts. That would be the only reason I can see them taking design cues from the MY08 9-3, just to spur more sells. Plus the powerplants don't resemble what the next-gen Saab's should be for their top tier car... Just my thoughts!

Yes, all I can hope for is that he really ment "the design language of some of the small changes that we made to that old design that we all know felt as fresh as a 5 year old Opel Vectra even when it was brand new" :)

Another advantage of putting a 4-banger into the 9-5 is in markets where the vehicle is taxed depending upon engine displacement or CO2 emissions.

I almost think they shouldn't even bother bringing the 4-cylinder 9-5 to the States (like how we don't even have the 1.8t or 1.8i here). The six-cylinder should be the only option here. A car in that price range and segment will not be taken seriously here with a four-cylinder, unfortunately, no matter how much you try to convince potential customers.

I sure hope the 9-5 comes-out looking more like some of those sleek renderings we've seen and less like the 2008 9-3 (no offense to '08 9-3 owners). :-(

Well, since the Turbo X is the official car of the Sith, no wonder Han Solo has a bad feeling about using the new 9-3 design language for the next 9-5.

"Martin // Feb 24, 2008 at 5:17 am

“new 9-5, that will have similar design language as the 9-3Aero MY2008″

To quote Han Solo: I have a bad feeling about this."

That quote just leaves me running around like the robot from Lost in Space screaming "DANGER WILL ROBINSON"

Hopefully he's just generalizing the styles and by "like the 2008 9-3" he just means "Aero X inspired" but wanted to use a better-known car for people who aren't Saab-o-philes.

i'd much rather see the 9-5 with the '08, 9-3 design language than the 9-4x's design languid,,,, eh, i mean, design language. (sorry.)
