Friday Snippets
Sales News
It’s the last day of February, which means there’s going to be sales data come in early next week.
Saab is down worldwide so it’ll be interesting to see how the major markets have gone. I’ve a feeling it’s not going to be pretty.

On a positive note, sales increased by 37% in Romania last month….

Saab Canada and Australia
I sent emails to Saab Canada and Saab Australia last night to try and confirm the Turbo X prices we saw on the web yesterday. I’m quite confident they’re accurate, but I had some other questions for Saab Canada as well.
So far, all I’ve heard is the sound of tumbleweeds.
It’s notable that neither country has held a big whizz-bang launch for the Turbo X yet, a possible reason for the silence on prices. Having said that, other markets have released pricing information prior to conducting a launch.
Apparently the Turbo X is going to be an auto show in Edmenton soon, so we may hear from Saab Canada at that time.

Saab 9-1 or 9-x concept news
Earlier this week I posted a note to the effect that the concept car I’ve been referring to as the Saab 9-1 concept may actually be called a 9-x at the Geneva show next week. Many were a little skeptical, myself included, but that was the message I’d received.
Just in case you missed it, this turned up in comments to a subsequent post:
I live in Switzerland and my local Saab dealer sent me an invitation letter for Geneva’s car show just today.
Without surprise it announces the 9-4x Concept, the 9-X BioHybrid (I guess the 9-1 concept) and the Saab 9-5 Turbo Edition.
Looks like there’s some definite substance to the idea, then.

It’s Friday and there’s still no images of that concept car, and it’ll be showing next Monday.
My inbox is ready and waiting if anyone’s got something to send. You probably know that already, but I’m just saying….

It’s probably 9-X because they haven’t decided which number to use as yet. Maybe 9-? would be more appropiate?
Well the “Turbo-X” was also in Montreal. Until I started speaking to the rep and he actually told me that this is a mock Turbo-X; it was actually a regular 9-3 Aero ! I wouldn’t be surprised if that mock version is making it’s way around Canada.
One can only wonder what’s behind the name issue. Sorry for being pessimistic but recycling the 9-x name sounds like a bad sign.
Thumbs up it will still appear as 9-1 !
Here’s a new one: It’s actually the 9X, but only with some bio-hybrid dream stuff inserted…
Ken H,
I had that thought myself earlier… Don’t know if I like that idea or not…
Based on that ad, I fear Ken H is right.
Be prepared for a major drop in US sales..
I doubt that it is a 9X with bio-hybrid stuff or at least I doubt it will look exactly the same if they call 9X. The shots shown here clearly show that the lights are different. I believe that it will look like a 9X & AeroX were in the back seat of a SportCombi. We’ll probably see 9Xish body with AeroXish face and maybe a lil something unique to the car to give it its’ own identity… at least I hope…
The design is Brian Nesbitss and the 9x Michael Mauers.. Nesbitt might have used some of the design cues from the 9x but the design is probably very different and more Aero X´ish

Hats of to Anthony Lo who has had his fingers in all three projects.. God forbid he gets snatched away from Saab like Michael Mauer. If your interested in design and like to work as a designer with Einar Hareide (Head of design for Saab between 94-99 and designer of the 9-5) as boss just go to http://www.hareide-designmill.no and apply for a job. They are currently looking for designers. Einar is one heck of a designer!
I think you mean Edmonton if you’re going off the comments made by Richard in a previous thread. I will be attending that car show in less than 2hrs and I will be bringing my camera. Hopefully they’ll have some info pertaining to the TurboX pricing.
NineTwoX,
Can you verify if this actually the real Turbo-X and not a regular 9-3 Aero dressed up as a Turbo-X - which was the case in Montreal. Just out of curiousity
It looked like the Turbo X from all the pictures of seen if it. It had all the right badging, rims, exhaust outlets, dash trim, etc… I was only able to grab 2 pictures of the car though.
I ran into the Edmonton dealership sales manager(& Keith as well) and he confirmed that they start at about $55K and top out at almost $60K.
Pretty impressed with the detail on the Turbo X. Even the valve caps matched the rim colour.
Just as a side note, they did have Turbo X brochures available as well.
