Drawing a Saab 9-3 with MS Paint

I can’t draw stick figures, even if I have computer assistance.

I’m not sure that MS Paint is on the “most-wanted” list at the 11 GM design studios around the world. But if it is then I’m sure this guy would be hired in an instant!

Awesome stuff!

I’ve seen these things so many times it’s stopped being impressive :p

The fact that someone did a Saab is cool, though.

My personal favorite, though it isn’t in Paint

Jeff is obviously nonplussed but I must say I was damn impressed. MS paint is a shitty program to draw strawmen in not to mention cars and the way it was done here. there is lot of talent out there and we can only hope it can be harnessed in way that is positive for everyone.

painting with ms paint is as useful of a skill as hitting yourself on the head with a shovel

    • Martin N said:

If he can do that by hitting himself on the head with a shovel, think about what he can do with better tools.

If you can’t handle Paint, you can’t handle Photoshop.

Wow, that was indeed double awesome! Not only because of this is SAAB related but also since this awesome drawing were accompanied by my favorite group - Dream Theater.

      I am not only driving my 9-5 24/365, I’m also a bassplayer…….. ;/)

Reverse video? I not really saying he did this, I’m envious of his abilities. But, it’s so good, and dimensionally accurate and smooth, it’s almost like he started with a photo/drawing imported into MS Paint, then gradually erased/modified it until there was nothing left, and then ran the video in reverse. :-)

The level of difficulty is very high. MS Paint is a horrible piece of software that even a novice like me will not use (I’m a GIMP man, with Irfan View as a quicky tool).

It took this man forever to do this. At least several hours. Good stuff.

Dang impressive. Some real talent there. How did we ever get along without Illustrator and 3D modeling programs? Oh yeah, this is how.

      Pretty nice job!
      However, it’s not about the efficiency… :)

      Olav, I’m with you 100%.

      Dream Theater, 9-5. Except i’m a drummer.

Drummers. You know how to tell if a drum platform is level, right?

The dribble falls evenly from both sides of the drummer’s mouth :-)

What is it with Saab owners and rhythm sections? ;-)

I wish we could see a full sized image :(
I really love the beginning sketch with the rough red lines. It makes the 9-3 look incredibly beautiful and aggressive!

      Saab drivers and Rhythm sections…

Not the glamourous end of the music or motoring industries, but without us cohesive songs and cohesive design would suffer irrevocably.

    • Jeff said:

Yeah, rhythm sections are so awesome that no one wants to be in them around here. You’d think my stepbrother was the only drummer in Maryland.

Simon A: what about teaming up an international Trollhattansaab band? We could tour the various car saloons (Geneva, Detroit, Stockholm, London…..) playing on SAAB stands. And, with Swade on lead vocal (he has after all got himself a name in the auto industry) we should receive some proper attention ;/)

      Saabyurk,
Doing a reverse video like that is probably only a tiny bit easier than actually drawing the car. :)

But he did not draw it by heart, he used this picture as an original: http://www.autovideoblog.it/img/video/825/39autocabrioletepotentesaabsicura.jpg

If i were to make a drawing like that, I would maybe use a printout of the photo as an underlay to my Wacom tablet, making it easier to sketch the outlines.

Nevertheless, impressive work. It’s not magic, just excellent craftmanship, the kind being done all over the world every day :)

Martin N, Yeah, I wasn’t implying he did that, just saying that’s how good it looked. I would have guessed he used a photo, though I know an artist who can just mentally visualize a complex scene, and then paint it. When I try that all I see is a gray fog. I stepped through his video and noticed he used what looked like traditional pencil drawing techniques. Like, he firs rough sketched the outlines in a color he could remove completely later on, and then drew more accurate lines using those as a guide. He used the “curve” tool almost exclusively for the lines.
If I could draw, I’d be sketching up my own version of a 9-1. :-(
